Mortuary School to AA Credit Questions
#1
Hi, I was enrolled in a mortuary school from 2016-2018 and had to suddenly leave without graduating.  I discovered this site in 2019 but life got in the way again after only getting my Ethics AICP-0121 completed to ACE.  I received the transcript from my old school and want to know if I can use these classes towards another degree and not this particular school.  I would like to get the Pierpont if nothing else is obtainable.  Do I have options?

A lot of mortuary schools are NA - so you need to tell us what kind of accreditation the school has. If you don't know, you can always say the name of the school, and we can help you.

Based on the course numbering, it looks like the school was AAMI; http://funeraleducation.org

(Courses here: http://funeraleducation.org/wp-content/u...262019.pdf )

Looks like the school is state authorized in New York but is not regionally or nationally accredited: https://funeraleducation.org/approvals-a...ditations/

It's nationally accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education, which is DOED-recognized both as an accreditor of programs in funeral service or mortuary science and of freestanding schools of funeral service or mortuary science.

How about an AAS? You won't be able to use NA credits, but you could still get the Pierpont Bog AAS in 1-4 months, for as cheap as about a hundred bucks!

https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Pierpont_C%26TC

--------

Excelsior should accept at least some of your credit as electives towards a bachelors degree in the future. Or you can go to UMPI with the credits earned toward the Pierpont degree.

--------

Unless you live right next to a testing center, CLEP may actually cost more than something like Sophia. The remote testing is full of issues still and it's apparently easy to accidentally exit and cancel your exam instead of submitting it. If you go in, on the other hand, you still have to pay the proctoring fee out of your own pocket (can be around $100 each time) and wait to be reimbursed. I'm not sure if there is also a proctoring fee with the remote proctoring, but the same would apply in that case.

With Sophia, the courses are open-book. It's easy to bang out the required 20 courses in 1-2 months. A few brave individuals have obtained 60 credits in LESS than a month.

If you really can't afford $200, Saylor is an option. Their exams are only $5 each. Their courses are going to take longer than Sophia, but you can pay for them as you get the money. Since you won't have to wait for reimbursement of a proctoring fee, they should be faster for you than CLEP would.

You can also get some credits for free through the American Dream Academy. https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Coursera
