New Requirement questions
#1
Trying to understand new req's.
I think sections 1,2 and 3 are fairly easy. My question is with #4 "Integrative and Applied Learning, including synthesis and advanced accomplishment across general and specialized studies (integrated throughout general education and capstone courses)". Is this category just regular gen ed electives? There is no list of courses under this heading. They don't have a number of credits needed listed here either. I'm guessing it is the remaining 18 (to make a total of 60 Gen Eds).

They include the capstone in this area though. Does that mean that the capstone is no longer Upper Level? It appears that we will need to use some UL tests to fulfill Lower level Gen Eds. I wonder how this will effect the ability to find enough UL's for the Area of Study. Any Thoughts?

A lot of the examples given in TESC's list of gen ed's are upper level.

It sounds like it is just a desired outcome of the degree. The capstone helps to wrap everything up.

Quote:This competency will be demonstrated across interdisciplinary general education courses as well as in the area of study and capstone courses.

I'm not seeing a place where the college math CLEP fits either. It looks like they start with Math 105 (Applied Liberal Arts Math). I thought Clep College math transcribes as Math 102 and 103. Hopefully they will accept College Math for at least Gen Ed electives.

I thought the lowest acceptable math for the mathematics requirement was always MAT 115. Of course, business and some of the other science and technical degrees required higher levels of math. I was under the impression that College Math was always a natural science/mathematics elective and would spill into gen ed or free electives if there wasn't enough room. Maybe TESC doesn't offer MAT 102/103 anymore. I'm not sure if they ever did, but the CLEP is still listed as MAT 102/103. A lot of the tests are transcribed as something that doesn't have an equivalent course at TESC.

I'm helping my sister get started down this road. She will have the higher maths, but that College Math for 6 credits in Gen Ed Electives is a fast 6 credits (especially after completing the higher maths). I'm hoping TESC will still accept it somewhere besides free electives.
