Sophia - Intro to Ethics
#21
I just finished this course last weekend with a 91.   That is one of my lowest scores and I agree some of the questions could have had more than one correct answer.    I did not enjoy the course, but I didn't hate it.   I worked on it here and there for about a week but I didn't have all that many clock-hours into it.

I have taken professional ethics courses, including the one from The Institutes, which evidently no longer reports that to ACE/Credly.   But this course was unlike any other ethics course I have taken.   I also took Ancient Greek Philosophers but it was a few years ago and so I don't remember any real overlap, but I'm sure there could have been some.

Ultimately, I can see why some people would hate it.

I'm taking this course because it's 3 credits and the one I took was only 1 credit. This philosophy approach is hurting my brain. I lasted a week when I tried taking intro to philosophy in college years ago. Apparently, my brain hasn't changed in 20+ years.
Oh my goodness.  I know your post is a couple years old, but I am struggling with Intro to Ethics on Sophia, too and found your post when searching to see if anyone else was not doing well.
I also did not do well in Philosophy in community college - bombed it.
I have aced all the other Sophia classes I've taken so far and am so confused by this class.  I watch the videos and read the material and all the answers still seem the same.
I'm more than halfway through, so hoping to power through and finish above 70%.
I'm glad I'm not alone in my struggles!

They took an easy to understand concept like ethics and made a twisted mess of philisophical nonsense out of it. Then they gave the most vague, and subjective questions possible which was the real problem with this course. The text frequently did not match up to the questions and the questions had more than one possible correct answer MANY times according to the text/information given. When you have the lesson text right in front of you and you still have to guess on which answer they want of more than one correct answer possibility, it's incredibly frustrating.

If their goal was to make me despise philosopy and never want anything to do with it for the rest of my life, they succeded.
Perfectly stated!  I am struggling through this course now, and experiencing everything you just said.  I am a logical person, so I thought this course was going to be enjoyable, but I was SO wrong.  I can't wait to finish (and hopefully pass) this course.

Ethics is a central branch of philosophy. This foundational course is structured in a very conventional way in the analytic tradition of philosophy.

Any rigorous academic course in ethics will have a theoretic approach based on logical reasoning.
A solid foundational course also needs to cover meta-ethics.

I think you just have the wrong idea of what ethics as an academic subject consists of.

OMG just starting back to school to finish my degree and whoa this course is something!  I saw it and thought huh, I can finish that in a day.  Wrong, wrong, so wrong.  I now have to slow down and hope to pass.
