And, don't forget learning style.  My 16yo is taking some Study.com courses, and doing just fine.  But if she had to watch a 45min video, forget it.  She'd be toast.  She would not be able to take notes fast enough, I don't think (she has some learning difficulties, and writing fast is going to be an issue), and I can't imagine that she wants to pause over and over, making a 45-min video twice (or more) as long.

My 14yo would do fine, except that he would lose interest way before the video was over.  If he could speed it up, he might be ok.

in the marketing class (the only one I've observed) the first video is titled "main lecture" or such, and it is 30 minutes. This class uses Great Courses, and it's really good. Then there are a few others that are a total waste of time *youtube, etc. and range from 2-7 minutes each. I've watched the Great Courses videos several times- very very good. My son always watches them on x1 (1.5 is too fast) but the youtube ones.... I think he ignores them and lets them play in the background. So far, in his class quizzes have been based on the Great Courses, but that may change- he's only about 1/2 way done I think. (my Cybercrime son does his school on his own and I haven't even asked him about them- not sure if they are the same way)
The cyber crime one definitely focuses on the great course main lecture videos. There are a few long youtube documentaries and videos of court cases that take a while but aren't necessary to pass.

I can't wait for the TESU course equivalency guide to be released. One of their employees said it will be finished "soon." I'm really curious about the history course. I'm thinking maybe it would count only as a gen ed elective since it's not very specific to a certain period in history. Let me know what you guys think.

I just realized there's a really really big problem with OD. If any of the Youtube videos they pulled from goes unlisted or is deleted for whatever reason (which happens allllll the time), you can't move forward in the course. This just happened to me and now I'm stuck until I'm able to reach one of their employees for help.

I would try to keep the page open because sometimes the timer within the OD site keeps timing even if the video isn't working.

It worked! I also refreshed it about 10 times haha. The video never did become available, I was just able to skip it finally.

Yes, also, I had an error with one of their videos once, used the message function, and they had it fixed within a few minutes.

I'm not a fan of having to work this hard to figure out a rubric, but here are the steps to do it.

Their site says: Attendance/Participation (10%), Quizzes (50%), and the Final Exam (40%)

Go into "my profile" and you'll see your "registered courses."

Click on the drop-down menu for the course you want to see your scores for.

Quiz % will show for everything you've done. You have to count how many quizzes to know what the "whole" is, and then from that number, subtract 2. (if you'll take 18 quizzes you'll keep grades for 16 highest scores)

Then however many quizzes you will have grades for, you'll give each one a value of 100 points. (a class with 18 quizzes = 16 graded quizzes = 1600 "points")

I realize this feels mathy, just bear with me. So, your number is now = 50% of the class. In this example, 1600 points = 50%, so I will use 3200 "points" as my whole (100%)

In this hypothetical class, if 3200 is my "whole", then 1600 points are my quizzes (50%), 320 points (10%) makes up my attendance, and 1280 points is the final (40%)

Now SAVE ALL OF THIS on paper somewhere- make a chart/graph. Start calculating everything.

Attendance will be 10% and you'll get those points because you have to watch all the videos (fill that in as 320 in this case)

Then start doing your quizzes- we used 100, so it's super easy to do: a quiz score of 57.14% is 57.14 "points" in this sample. A quiz score of 85.71% is 85.71 "points" and so on. write this down as you do each quiz so you can see your running "point" score.

Final exam (blank for now) but in this sample will be worth 1280 points.

You need a passing score of 70%, so our whole point value is 3200 x 70% = 2240 points to pass.

If this is all written down on a chart, you will be able to keep track as you go, and it should be simple adding to know how close you are to 2240 at any point in time.

Ok, so this is strange- this feature is gone. I literally went in and calculated my son's grades, logged in today to update his last 2 scores and it's GONE. ?!?!?! Quiz scores are no longer visible.

That's very strange. I've been using your technique to calculate my grades (so thank you) and my quiz grades are still showing up. I checked as soon as I read your post. Maybe they disappear once you get closer to the end? I can't imagine why though.

I don't have any idea. I can't see quiz scores any longer for Marketing or Cybercrime. What class are you in?

EDIT: ok, so I figured out what is happening- but what I can't figure out is WHY it's happening. But if I go in and open the class through My Profile, I'm routed back to the course's launch page- nothing in there. But, I can get it by opening My Profile, then "Expand all" from the TOP of the screen (not the class) and everything opens up. I don't think that's what I did before, but now I'm second-guessing my memory. Strange. Anyway, I can see the scores, so it's all good!!

Strange, I could never see my quiz scores except for the screen right after I submit. But it's been a month or 2 since I worked on OD courses. Maybe they recently implemented that option and they're still working out the kinks.
