Pell grant and the 16 credits
#11
I take classes that coincide with my degree or courses that interest me. There's no set formula for classes once you've completed the degree requirements. Just know that you can't take capstones and cornerstones at the same time at most colleges.

9 credits = 75% of Pell Grant award
6 credits = 50% of Pell Grant award

I just talk to tesu and the financial aid office said actually that 6 is full time. They said that according to the federal guidelines it is 12 credits correct. The difference is that because tesu is 12 week terms by taking 2 terms back to back like the July term and the October term technically you are taking 12 credits if you take 6 each term and thus I will receive my full amount. I also check my account balance and it checks out all right.

Most people in this thread are incorrect.

6 credits is FULL TIME. FULL award of PELL per term.

12 week per term / 4 terms a year.

PELL GRANT max is
$6345 this year.

TESU:
MAX PELL pays out $2115 per term at tesu (3x a year) for 6 cr.

after pell:
2x 3cr TESU classes cost $159 total.

Which is:
$79.5 a class or $26.5/Credit after full pell award [$424 OOP for 16 Credits]

Exactly so 159 x3 plus the graduation fee is about 775 plus say textbooks and other fees and the total cost for the entire degree should close to probably $1000 for an entire degree. Which is not bad separated over 3 terms and takes 9 months to graduate versus say 3 months and pay 3-4 thousand.

AOTC tax credit returns 100% of the first $2k OOP, so maybe free. I don’t think books count, unless they’re included in the course fees. but I’d check and see if there’s a way.

You know, I can't remember anyone on this forum explaining this - and it makes sense.  I've always thought that we were comparing apples-to-oranges when looking at the Pell for TESU because of the term length, and I was right.

Also, in looking at TESU's website, only Online and Guided Study counts for enrollment for Pell.  So if you're wanting to take an e-Pack, even though it costs the same, it won't work.
