Board of Governors A.A.S. Graduate – Class of 2022

Dirk Sommers, a first-generation college graduate, is a 2022 Board of Governors program alumnus. Six months after graduting from Pierpont, Sommers will be receiving a bachelor’s degree in project management from University of Maine at Presque Isle in May.

“I had coaches always tell me, ‘whether you think you can or you cannot.. you’re right.’ I didn’t think I could, but Pierpont and Nancy Parks (Associate Provost, Student Services) taught me that I could.

Pierpont will teach you that you can do it – you can get the degree, you can succeed and go other places – further than you might have ever seen yourself going.”

It is indeed I. I also couldnt have done it without a lovely member here sending me fee for sophia for a last second bio course to graduate. I am now a History Teacher and Wrestling coach here in Texas. I have also passed the sophia thing and pierpont onto my kids and they love it that they can get a degree without the huge debt and I had one kid graduate this year and he is 34 credits down on sophia. I use alot of asynchronous learning module type curriculum on canvas that way it frees us up in class to do discussions or even projects with the content. I also just recently got recognized with the National certificate for teaching STEM, I also got accepted into UNT’s accelerated Masters of Education, Im going to keep trucking. Thanks everyone for what you have contributed to my journey!
