Questions about College Algebra CLEP
#11
I just took the College Algebra Clep and passed with a 52 and I am very very bad at math. To study all I used was the College Board practice test ($10). It was super similar to the test but I did think it was harder than the actual CLEP (which i thought was helpful). I also reviewed the types of problems that were given on the list on College Board on Khan Academy. If you have trouble understanding a lot of fundamentals needed for some of the material, Coolmath.com is a good site. Its a little elementary but it helps those who are not good at math. I also used 4Tests.com a lot. Its pretty similar to questions you will see on the CLEP. My test had a lot of functions and inverse functions as well as inequalities and logarithms. If you practice problems a few times a week a month before the test you'll do fine. Goodluck!

do you have access to the provided calculator throughout the whole exam? I am getting killed on my practice tests when it comes to time and I think its mostly because I am practicing without a calculator entirely. Can you use it anytime during the exam or only on certain questions? (I know that it's only a basic calculator, but it beats using long hand when trying to decide which is greats on multiple expressions of an exponential number)

Yes- it is during the whole test, but beware, you have to move it for almost each question, so it doesn't block your answer choices. All that to say, moving it around can take up time, but it's still better to have it then to slog through exponents without it (like you said)!

Thank you so much! This is helpful. I feel like I have been scattering my studying resources, and I am very bad at math. I don't feel like I'm really progressing.

I echo the importance of time in this exam. I bombed this exam by one point because I ran out of time before completing it; I felt like I needed 30 more minutes. I knew most of the material, but didn't realize how important speed of solving the problems is.
