Realistic plan?
#1
Due to some personal things going on right now, I need to graduate by next August. I figured that if I took 4 weeks on each of these courses (with 8 weeks for the TESU courses), I would finish by July 2020. How realistic is this given I need to complete the following courses? I don't study well as I tend to lose focus and concentration very easily. I work part-time and will plan on doing school on Saturdays and maybe even Sundays.

Principles of Finance (SDC)
Globalization and International Management (SDC)
Intro to C++ (SL)
Systems Analysis and Design (SDC)
Database Management (SDC)
Digital Marketing and Advertising (SDC)
Management Information Systems (SDC)
Network Technologies (TESU course)
Statistics (TESU course, taking with Network Technologies)
Capstone, Strategic Management

Thanks everyone! I appreciate your input.

Well TESU courses are 12 weeks long. So you might want to factor that in.

If you want to graduate in September 2020, you would need to register for either March, April or May 2020 capstone. If you have to graduate by August, you will graduate in June 2020. In order to do that you need to register for the December, January, or February capstone. TESU only grants degrees four times a year (March, June, September, December)

And those look like a lot of area of study courses you still have left. You will need them all done and evaluated before signing up for the capstone. So pick the term you want to register for the capstone work backward from there. But you'd have to have everything done a month before the capstone you want to allow TESU time to evaluate everything and also for you register for that capstone.

Remember TESU has a 90 credit limit for one source. If you used study.com a lot for the rest of your degree, you might have to use something else for some of them.

Thanks natshar! Ugh, I forgot that TESU courses are 12 weeks long. And I should have clarified. I don't necessarily need to graduate by August, I just need to be done with coursework. It doesn't matter when I officially graduate, as long as I can get the capstone done by August.

I would recommend doing the Study.com courses first, at least 2/month and if you're fast, do 3 a month.  So, there are 6 courses, you should expect to have them done in 3 months time max.  You can also work the 2 TESU courses after, that will take 3 months.

The capstone course, you can take by itself, it's the hardest course of all, so it's best if you're not taking anything along with it... So technically, you can have this done in 9 months time, you can graduate in Sept 2020 if you apply for graduation before the deadline.

But I'm guessing OP is doing multiple courses at TESU for aid purposes.

If you are close to 16 you might want to consider replacing some of the courses with TESU courses to avoid the wavier.

I don't know a lot about C++ at Straighterline, but 4-6 weekend days doesn't seem like much, unless you have prior knowledge.

How are you with writing papers?

Yes, I'm doing Network Technologies and Statistics through TESU to get financial aid. So just the 9 credits, including the Capstone.
Wouldn't it be more expensive to do 16 credits with TESU than to pay the waiver? I do qualify for a Pell Grant if that makes a difference.

I have zero knowledge of C++, so yeah I was thinking that too; getting it done in 4 weeks is cutting it.

Writing papers.... I guess I'm ok with it, but I really, really, hate them. Maybe if I wrote more of them I would enjoy it more?? I don't feel like I'm an especially good writer, but it just may be my lack of self-confidence

Wow, that would be amazing if I could do that! Unfortunately, like I said earlier, I lose concentration a lot and can't stay focused. For instance, I had totally planned on taking History of the Vietnam War and Personal Finance together, since HOTVW is super easy and $200 a month for just one course is waaaay too much for me to afford. But, for some reason, it has taken me four weeks to complete HOTVW when I know I could have done it sooner (taking the proctored test tomorrow). So yeah, there's that.

But don't you have TES-100 as well? That makes 10 credits. You would only need to do 6 more credits at TESU. You don't have to do this, it is just an idea. The waiver is $2800. TESU (in state assuming you are using study.com) is 379/cr. 379 x 6 is ~2300 and that is before the pell grant. It would actually be much cheaper to do 16.

Speaking of saving money, Davar courses are only $100 for two so that's $50 each. They offer three of the courses you need to do: international business, finance and management information systems. It might be worth it doing management info systems which comes in as UL, through them along with a business core course. It would save you the time of doing a study.com assignment (no papers!) and money. If you don't like this idea, just switch out where I said Davar back to study.com.

This is an example plan: (you don't have to follow it, just an idea)
  • The month of August: Start on Davar and/or Study.com. Hopefully, get at least one course done, then you have less to do later. Principles of Finance would probably be an easy one. Especially if you have some basic financial skills/literacy. One month to hopefully do one course.
  • September Term at TESU: stats, network technology (While in these courses also work on sdc, 3 months to do 3 courses so one course a month, or two courses if you worked ahead in August)
  • December Term at TESU: 6 credits AOS courses. Only two on your list are available at TESU C++ and database management. database management is UL. (also work on Davar courses, 3 months to finish 2 courses)
  • February Term at TESU: capstone (if needed you could always finish up one study.com course or Davar alongside it if you didn't finish it in time)
Note, this term you won't qualify for the Pell Grant due to only 3 credits. If you wish to take this alongside other courses, just do the TESU courses including the capstone in 2 terms and divide it up that way. Or add another degree required class alongside the capstone this 3rd term. If you just took the capstone by itself you can do that, but you would get no pell grant. You need 6 credits in a term to qualify for aid.

With the February Capstone, you would then qualify for June graduation.

Globalization and International Management (Davar or SDC)
Management Information Systems (Davar or SDC)

Principles of Finance (SDC or Davar)
Systems Analysis and Design (SDC)
Digital Marketing and Advertising (SDC)

Intro to C++ (TESU)
Database Management (TESU)
Network Technologies (TESU)
Statistics (TESU)
Capstone (TESU)

One the planning and working backward... What would be the earliest possible graduation? Would it still be possible to start now and finish Oct 1st (grad. Dec.)?
As natsar pointed out there are only four yearly times degrees are granted: March (January 1st), June (April 1st), September (July 1st), December (October 1st).

SOS-110 Critical Information Literacy
May 2019, Jun 2019, Jul 2019, Aug 2019, Sep 2019
BUS-421 Business Administration Capstone
May 2019, Jun 2019, Jul 2019, Aug 2019, Sep 2019

Sep 2019 registration:
Registration Dates: July 29-Aug. 18, 2019
Late Registration: Aug. 19-Sept. 1, 2019 = $115 extra / course ?

What other procedures need to be accounted for? Can someone help with a timeline?

I think a key factor is how much you can focus and be reasonably efficient with the Study.com writing assignments. And especially the Capstone.

I guess would also depend on how good your test-taking skills are.

Davar was great for me, but I think many would rather avoid writing during an exam. So check the course requirements before signing up. Some have writing assignments separate from the final exam. Some have writing on the exam, similar to the TECEPs which have written sections.
