Received TESC Eval - Help me pick a new plan please
#1
I had a evaluation done at TESC and it appears that only 15 of my past credits will apply into the program. The program I chose was the General Management/Business. My military courses didn’t transfer to anything. Then all of the FEMA credits I have look like they didn’t apply to anything. They have a NE after them. Also 2 courses I took at the local CC didn’t apply. One was English and the other was a health class. Health was listed as a duplicate because I guess I had taken a CLEP on that awhile back so I can understand that one.

They said I can have one more evaluation done with another program to see if more will fit. Can any of you recommend a program that I might get more bang for my credit buck? Or might take a bunch of the FEMA credits at least to make up for some of the others? The concentration of the degree is pretty open for me. Its more of a “checkmark” on the company eval for me.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

I don't know what all your courses were, but I can answer the FEMA issue. The "NE" after each FEMA course on your evaluation means "non-course equivalency." In my experience, FEMAs, CLEPs, DSSTs, and ECEs all have the "NE" after them at TESC. On my evaluations, the "NE" has an asterisk in front of it; the meaning should be at the bottom of the evaluation.

Hope this helps! Good luck with your degree!

The Business degree requires very specific courses and includes only 6 credits for FREE ELECTIVES (like FEMA). Thomas Edison State College | BSBA in General Management Credit Distribution

Your previous courses may not have fit into the Business major and they may have filled the 6 FREE ELECTIVES, so everything else that didn't fit was marked NE.

Any Bachelor of Arts allows 27 FREE electives (including up to 24 FEMAS). The most flexible BA is Liberal Arts. Thomas Edison State College | BA in Liberal Studies Credit Distribution

Ok that helps. Here is the actual transcript. I really appreciate the help decrypting all these credit rules. I highlighted in red the actual courses they gave me credit for that way you dont have to read all of the outline.

Do you happen to have a list of all the classes/ exams you have passed, even if TESC didn't put them on this degree plan? You might have extras that would apply to a different degree. What did you have from the military, for example?

ETA: Great minds, thinking alike. Smile Thanks for adding them.

Good job posting the evaluation..it makes it easier. So yes, the 6 FREE ELECTIVES were filled so everything else went to OTHER COURSES.

So right off by switching to a BA you will gain 21 credits (all FREE ELECTIVES).

You have a lot of areas to choose from Thomas Edison State College | Bachelor of Arts
or go for the Liberal Studies.

The only other one you may consider if it has any potential to help your career is this one Thomas Edison State College | Credit Distribution for Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Since theoretically it would apply some of the FEMAS to the area of study and then all the rest would go to FREE ELECTIVES which means you would pick up an additional 29 credits which include all the OTHER credits except "Heres to your Health" which was duplicate credit.

The English course was marked DEV which means it was developmental...probably a requirement of the CC. Those credits are lost.

Here is what my transcript says from the military. They all have a ACE identifier code.

firstaid -1 - Lower Level
fitness- 1 - Lower Level
health - 1 - Lower Level

Aviation Maintenance - 1 - Lower Level

Aircraft Maintenance - 2- Vocational

Mechanical Fundamentals- 3 - Lower Level

Quote: Here is what my transcript says from the military. They all have a ACE identifier code.

firstaid -1 - Lower Level
fitness- 1 - Lower Level
health - 1 - Lower Level

Aviation Maintenance - 1 - Lower Level

Aircraft Maintenance - 2- Vocational

Mechanical Fundamentals- 3 - Lower Level

Here's how I'm guessing they credited them:

(health - 1 - Lower Level) 2 HEA-106 Personal Health 1.00 CR HEA-106 *NE
(firstaid -1 - Lower Level) 2 HEA-195 First Aid 1.00 CR HEA-195 *NE
(fitness- 1 - Lower Level) No credit given for fitness, I think that is TESC policy

(Aviation Maintenance - 1 - Lower Level) 2 AVM-102 Basic Aviation Maintenanc 1.00 CR AVM-102 *NE

That leaves:
Aircraft Maintenance - 2- Vocational
Mechanical Fundamentals- 3 - Lower Level
and 1 credit given as
2 PEA-199 Spec. Stud. in Selected T 1.00 CR PEA-199 *NE ?????

So if you go for a regular BA the extra credits would not matter since your FREE ELECTIVES would be filled. If you went for the BS Homeland Security then I would challenge the amount of credit given for:
Aircraft Maintenance - 2- Vocational
Mechanical Fundamentals- 3 - Lower Level

Since you could in theory apply extra credits to FREE ELECTIVES since many of the FEMAS would apply to the Area of Study.

Login to the webadvisor app and play around with it. Change your degree plan to BALS and see how it works out. You can do what if scenarios in that app for all the degree types.

https://webadvisor1.tesc.edu:443/WebAdvisor/WebAdvisor

I think should have a login already if you have an eval.
