Second Associates at TESU
#1
I've read through the TESU website multiple times and I understand that "Students who desire to have two Thomas Edison State University associate degrees awarded in the same graduation cycle may do so providing 12 credits are different in the second degree's option" but this statement is throwing me:

"he/she must complete a minimum of 12 credits in the option beyond credits completed on the date the most recent degree, regardless of academic level, was awarded."

It sounds like it's saying get one Associates before you can get the second one.  BUT the first statement says you can get both in the same graduation cycle.

Can anyone give me any clarity on this please?

You can get both in the same cycle.

If you decide to get one first, then you need the minimum number of new credits.

From the TESU Award of Degrees Policy on their website:

First Simultaneous Associate and Baccalaureate Degrees
  • Students who desire to have two Thomas Edison State University baccalaureate degrees awarded in the same graduation cycle may do so providing 24 credits are different in the second degree's core/area of study.

  • Students who desire to have two Thomas Edison State University associate degrees awarded in the same graduation cycle may do so providing 12 credits are different in the second degree's option.
or

Second Associate Degree
Students who have received one associate degree from a regionally accredited institution and wish to earn a second associate degree must:
  • Complete a minimum of 12 additional credits for a second associate degree beyond the date the most recent degree, regardless of academic level, was conferred.
  • Additional credits must be earned in the degree option or area of study where an option or area of study is part of the degree.
  • Students must complete all requirements for the degree as listed in the current Thomas Edison State University Catalog.
The distinction would be whether you were earning a simultaneous degree (same graduation cycle) or a second associates degree after already earning an associate's degree at TESU or somewhere else.

Do you mean simultaneously? e.g. BALS + ASBA + ASNSM CS or some similar combination in the same graduation cycle? Yes, you can do that. As long as the simultaneous second Associates has 12 different credits from the first.

Do the '12 different credits' have to be in the Area of Study? or is it okay that some of the differing credits are coming from the General Ed section?

Aiming for TESU BSBA-GM, ASNSM in Biology, ASNSM in Computer Science

You're overthinking this a little too much, but the short answer is 'Yes'. Having said that, you don't need to worry about the General Education section at all, the reason is because the difference in the second degree is already made up with the Area of Study requirements, there is no need to spend extra time doing more general education courses when your focus would be obtaining the Bachelors.
