Sept 2020 Graduation - TESU plan of action
#1
Hey guys!

This is what I have mapped out so far in order to graduate Sept 2020. I have to take 16 credits+TECEP through TESU for the BA in Communications degree, so that will already take up 6 months. Do you think this is a pretty good course load?

July 2019 Term / July 1st - Sept 22:
MAR-321 - Marketing Communications TECEP
ENG-298 Jane Austen: Pride and Prejudice
COM-120: Mass communications I

October 2019 Term / Sept. 30-Dec. 22:
COM-100: Communication theory
SOS-110: Critical Information Literacy (Cornerstone)
COM-121: Mass commmunications II

Jan - March 2020 (2 courses per month):
Study.com English 105: College Comp. II
Study.com Political Science 102: American Government
Study.com BUS-305 Leadership Communication
Study.com BUS-324 Managerial Communications
Study.com ENG-305 Advanced Technical Writing
Study.com Bus 313 Organizational Communications

April 2020 Term / April 1-June 23, 2020:
Liberal Arts Capstone

July 1st, 2020 - apply for graduation

September 2020 Graduation

Thanks!

I'm assuming you're using the UL SDC credits for your AOS. If so, definitely do those in January so you can send them over and get them on your evaluation as soon as possible. You won't be allowed to register for the Capstone unless you are mostly done (only need 1-2 more courses in AOS).

I will say that I did up to 5 courses on SDC per month. So that schedule is totally doable, and likely even generous. I did the last 3 SDC courses you have listed. Even though they're UL, I found them very straightforward so they didn't take as much time as I expected.

Thanks, TexasTink! I'm totally open to swapping it so that SDC would be this summer and the TESU classes can start later on!

I'll have to see what my "new" pace is going back into SDC. When I tried it back in 2017, I able to squeeze out 2x/month. My son doesn't do "full-time" school attendance until September, so I will see what I can accomplish until then. Sept will open up a lot more time for me!

What did you think of 324 mangerial comm? I read it has a presentation, correct?

Thanks again!

I would imagine those 3 business communication classes will have a bit of overlap so that should help as well. I liked BUS 324 - it is pretty straightforward about thinking through lines of communication in a business. I had high enough scores from the quizzes, final, and written presentation that I didn't even submit the oral presentation. Since the grade doesn't transfer to TESU, I'd just rather not do a presentation! I still passed the class with an 84 without it.

Update - I am using financial aid (regular loan) to pay for my TESU courses and it looks like I am required to take a minimum of 6 credits per term to use aid. My preliminary schedule didn't account for this so I have to adjust.

Will this work?

October 2019 Term / Sept. 30-Dec. 22 - 7 credits planned:
MAR-321: Marketing Communications TECEP (3) - How do TECEPs fall under financial aid and do they count toward the 6 credit per term minimum? I don't care if I have to pay for it out of pocket, but am more concerned with meeting the min for the semester.
ENG-298: Jane Austen: Pride and Prejudice - (1)
COM-120: Mass communications I (3)

Jan - March 2020 - 6 credits planned:
COM-100: Communication theory (3)
COM-121: Mass communications II (3)

April 2020 Term / April 1-June 23, 2020 - 6 credits planned:
Liberal Arts Capstone (3)
SOS-110: Critical Information Literacy (3)

Thanks All!

TECEPs won't count, unfortunately. I'm pretty sure ePacks count though - they're expensive, but from what I understand they're basically a test-out, so if your concern is mostly workload rather than price, that might be a good way to meet that minimum.

Ok, thanks for that. That's what I figured, but you never know!

My issue now is how to avoid taking Mass Comm I and Mass Com II at the same time since one is a prerequisite to another. I'm afraid to overload the last semester that has the Capstone, so it looks like the only way to do it is to not use financial aid for all the courses, then.

PAY OUT OF POCKET TERM: 6 credits planned:
MAR-321: Marketing Communications TECEP (3) does not count toward residency fee
COM-120: Mass communications I (3)

FINANCIAL AID TERM: 7 credits planned:
COM-100: Communication theory (3)
ENG-298: Jane Austen: Pride and Prejudice - (1)
COM-121: Mass communications II (3)

FINANCIAL AID TERM: - 6 credits planned:
Liberal Arts Capstone (3)
SOS-110: Critical Information Literacy (3)

16 total credits to avoid residency fee, 13 credits used towards financial aid, 6 out of pocket.

Thanks,

D

It may behoove you to swap MAR-321-TE and SOS-110 in order to lower your workload during your Capstone term.

ePacks, Guided Study and Online courses are all the same price, and all count for residency the same.
