Shmoop Literature Courses Overview
#31
jsd Wrote:He just sent it to TESU on the 3rd. They take a ridiculous 25 business days to update their evaluations.

Settle in for a long wait.

I emailed them a few days ago about my JST transcript, and the reply I got was it can take 25-30 business days for them to evaluate. Their blog post explaining the evaluation process says "up to 20." Smh.

So maybe the middle of February before we know.

I emailed academic advising, asking where the classes would fit into my plan. Here's what they just sent me:

Quote:Here is how those courses will transfer to Thomas Edison:

Drugs in Literature SHMO-0019 will transfer to Thomas Edison as LIT-299 Special Topics
Holocaust Literature SHMO-0020 will transfer to Thomas Edison as LIT-299 Special Topics
Literature in the Media SHMO-0022 will transfer to Thomas Edison as LIT-299 Special Topics
Modernist Literature SHMO-0023 will transfer to Thomas Edison as LIT-201 Introduction to Modern English & American Literature II
Shakespeare's Plays SHMO-0025 will transfer to Thomas Edison as LIT-244 Intro to Shakespeare
The Bible as Literature SHMO-0027 will transfer to Thomas Edison as LIT-299 Special Topics
Women's Literature SHMO-0028 will transfer to Thomas Edison as LIT-323 Women in Literature

Anybody know who I can appeal to?

Holy crap that is a major disappointment. I really hope you can get some of them to work for you.

Oh boy I don't like this! Where KayV she usually has a great solution. Plus she did post all of the course equivalents to this classes from TESU data base. I would use those in your re eval to them. I had to do it many time with Edison back in the day saying this course should equal this course.

Here's part of KayV post

Shmoop (College)/ [TESU PLA Database]
American Literature (College)/ [American Literature LIT-205]
British Literature (College)/ [English Literature LIT-208]
Contemporary Literature (College)/ [Contemporary Fiction ENG-387]
Drugs in Literature (College)/ [probably an ENG- or LIT-299 or -399]
Holocaust Literature (College)/ [The Holocaust I ENG-301]
Introduction to Poetry (College)/ [Poetry I ENG-246]
Literature in the Media (College)/ [closest was Literature and Film ENG-347]
Modernist Literature (College)/ [probably an ENG- or LIT-399]
Shakespeare's Plays (College)/ [Shakespeare I LIT-320]
The Bible as Literature (College)/ [Biblical Literature I LIT-242]
Western Literature (College)/ [Literary Works in Western Culture LIT-202]
Women's Literature (College)/ [Women in Literature LIT-323]

TESU might use those values, or they might decide to use lower-level prefixes.

At any rate, woohoo for having more English options!

I would definitely use this as a guide in your eval, and make sur eyou send in a syllabus for each course. I think for the appeal you just send it back to the advising team email address and make your case for it, with attached documentation. It's been a while since I had to do that.

Looks like Holocaust Lit, Shakespeare's Plays, Bible as Lit and Lit in the Media might be the four I would have the best chance appealing.

I would definitely appeal those, it wouldn't hurt.

Unfortunately, I think TESU is going the way of Excelsior in applying credits as lower level when they would have previously been upper level.

At least they gave upper level for Women's Lit, but I am really surprised about Holocaust Literature not coming in as LIT-301. And there is a big difference between Modernist Literature and Intro to Modern Lit.

Anybody know who I can appeal to?

Wow. I know I joked about jobs with low expectations before but someone slacked off and just phoned that "eval" in

I would wait till the final eval is done and not just something an advisor put together. Your results could be different in the end. Advisors usually are not very useful or helpful.
