Not sure if it was mentioned before but Outlier is one of the partner organizations for Amazon's Career Choice program, allowing employees to take college courses for free:
https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases...95007.html

Interestingly, I still haven't found many legitimate reviews for their courses other than a few during their early days complaining about the proctoring service. It would be interesting to hear if anyone has had any experience with the platform.

Basically, I'm still hoping they'll come out with some upper level courses that aren't found elsewhere for cheap...
I really think this is a good option, very comparable to the ASU offerings and at a similar price point too...

Does anyone have actual experience with Outlier.org? The article mentioned in a previous post said the 'average time in a course was 140 hrs.' Not sure but that seems a bit much for a gen ed course.

Not sure how useful it is for our purposes, but it looks like they're rolling out a handful of associate degrees with GGU. $149/credit, and it looks like a Coursera cert is included? Not a whole lot of details on the site as of now.

$149/credit hour, max 45 transfer credits (no specific comments on ACE/alternative sources, but "military credit and work experience"), traditional financial aid available.

Very interesting. If the couses offered through the GGU program are useful, it could be a good opportunity assuming one has acceptable transfer credits.

Interesting tidbit: GGU is trying to attract more civilians to their programs right now to satisfy the 85/15 rule(no more than 85% of student body can be veterans using GI Bill funding). Because of the way VA funding works based off of location, GGU is very attractive to GI Bill users so they recently maxed out their 85%. Launching a highly scalable program like this at a low cost could drastically increase their student body while having most of their courses outsourced, so they could presumably attract a lot more civvies and as a result, admit more GI Bill users who bring in the majority of "revenue."

From the GGU website:
Quote:The Degrees+ program is open to students residing in nearly all states within the United States. Golden Gate University is not authorized to offer online courses to students residing in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Washington D.C., or Wisconsin. We recommend students have earned at least a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. You must be 13 or older and willing to commit yourself academically to enroll in our courses. Students attempting Degrees+ courses should be ready for the academic rigor of college-level coursework. Be sure to pick the right courses for both your ability and your long-term goals.

Interesting, does anyone happen to know why they wouldn't be authorized in certain states?

Something to do with SARA, I suppose. The California university system doesn't play nice with multiple other states, so there are no reciprocal SARA agreements for some universities. Both for students in Cali who want to attend another school and for students who want to take Cali classes.

I spoke to an advisor in chat and got a link to this brochure that shows the degree plan for the Associates in applied computing:

https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0406/8...1662501229

https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0406/8...1662501227

https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0406/8...1662501227

Links to brochures for the other 2 degrees. These show what certificates you can choose from for each program and what courses are included(hint: some courses like calculus 2, computer science 1/2, managerial accounting, and professional communication are planned for release in time for their corresponding semester).

Could be a good opportunity for someone who is already collecting mostly RA credits and doesn't have many other local/flexible CC options for an associates degree. If one maximized transfer credits and only needed the final 15 through outlier/GGU, they'd pay $149 * 15 = $2235. Having the CS 1/2, calc 1/2, and accounting courses as potential RA options could be beneficial for some.

Note on transfer: it looks like they limit non accredited transfer(military, work, certificates, etc.) Would be limited to 12. I'm guess ACE, if they accept it, would be included in that limit.
