South College announces competency-based DBA
Talked today with South College admissions and financial aid about the DBA-IT. A couple notes:
  • Because I work for a K-12 school district (not even as a teacher), they offered me a $1000 grant/term, making it $5000/6 months instead of $6000/6 months. On their website, it looked like this was only possible for Tennessee teachers and only on certain educational degrees, so this was a nice surprise. There were other grants available as well (all $1000/term), but we didn't go into them because they didn't stack and I was eligible from this one.
  • I had a quick "interview", so to speak, with the Director of CBE Admissions, but it lasted maybe 10 minutes and was mostly about making sure I had the time to work on this degree and a proper support network behind me. I'm not a fan of interviews, but there was nothing difficult about it.
  • For some reason, my $50 application fee was refunded to me. Maybe related to the school district grant above?
Tentatively leaning toward South College today, mostly because if I can finish within a year, the costs are now only half of what PUG's are (because of South's additional grant). Time and costs are two of my most important factors, and South wins on both over PUG.

Due to some specific circumstances only applicable to myself that I'm not going to get into, I decided not to do the South DBA at this time. That said, in all my research it really looks like an interesting program, and I think anyone who's done a CME degree at WGU/PUG/etc. who's considering a doctorate should absolutely look into this or South's EdD.
