Does anyone follow the rule of "if your unsure about the answer, go with the letter c". Just curious to see what experienced clep takers do. Thanks.

If I have no idea, I usually choose the longest answer no matter which letter it is.
Now that's strategy.

Hello, and welcome.
I make sure I know the subject well enough to have a shot at an educated guess before I take the exam. It's usually easy to narrow down to two choices -- then the simpler of the two is usually the right answer. I think they write distractors to catch people who memorize a lot of superficial notes but don't really know the concepts. For what it's worth, I tried pure guessing on a practice test not long ago and got a lot less than 50% correct. Phillip

In regards to your question I found this on a web site : source Guessing on the TExES--Is "C" Always the Best Guess?
"The old adage that C is the best choice may have been true in the day when humans manually arranged the answer choices on multiple choice tests. Those days are long gone. Computer programs are in charge of arranging the answers ...and they do a much better job of randomizing the location of the correct answer. On a properly constructed test, there is no discernible pattern to the occurrence of the correct answer choice. ...."

As someone who works teaching an online course in a technical center, all of the testing progams I have worked with for the last 5 years are able to SCRAMBLE the sequence of the questions AND answers within the test and/or each question.
Don't think the old rules apply anymore, unless it is just plain luck.

Thanks. When I was preparing for the ACT, my study guide said to pick a letter for the day and use it on all of the complete guesses. I'm not sure if I actually had a letter come to think of it (it would have been either B or D, knowing myself as I do). On CLEP tests, answer choices are not given letters, which helps you to be less distracted by an answer choice's position. Go with your first instinct is generally a better guide. For some of the best testing tips, take a glance (as you probably already have) at IC's CLEP Study Guide. Hope this helps.

I have routines I follow before every test I take. I take them all at 9am. I get to work at 7:30am, so for an hour I cram in stuff from the forums that suggested study material. At 8:30 I open a Monster Coffee energy drink and walk over to the Education Center. Finish the drink before I begin the test, and I'm hyper through the entire test.
If I dont know I choose the longest answer. Has worked well in the past. Alissaroot def has the right idea.
