Finance by test out
#1
Was wondering if it would be possible to knock out a degree in finance at Excelsior by test out route. Working on throwing together a plan for it and could use some direction. Not sure where to look for the concentration requrement tests. If they don't exist it would be nice to know so I don't keep digging. Also apparently Excelsior does not accept CLEP or DSST for upper division credits anymore in that degree path, according to the admissions rep I just spoke to. Any good alternative exams that anybody is aware of? Not really too worried about difficulty but I suppose easier is always better.

Davar has a few upper level finance classes.  I know Excelsior accepts other upper level business classes from Davar as upper level.  So it is likely they accept these as well.  It's worth checking out.   The exams I took from them weren't too bad.  They do have essay questions, but they only require short answers of about a paragraph or two at the most.  And all the information needed to pass the tests was included in the study guide provided by Davar.

Good luck!

Finance is one of the harder ones to test out of, as there aren't a lot of options (UL or otherwise).

If you can get them to take a LL Finance course for the core, then you'd have the UL one to use for the major.

The Money & Banking DSST is recommended as UL, I'm surprised they won't take it that way.

No idea how any of these will come into EC, but it's worth asking:

TECEP's ($225 for UL)
Security Analysis and Portfolio Management (UL)
Financial Institutions and Markets (UL)

Davar
Intro to Finance (UL)
Corporate Finance (UL)
Multinational Business Finance (UL)

FIN 104: Financial Management (LL)
FIN 301: Corporate Finance (UL)

CSU-Global
Assessing & Managing Risk (UL)
Financial Performance in Operations Management (UL)
Funding Sources for Small Businesss/Entrepreneurial Organization (UL)
Accounting & Finance for Healthcare Managers (UL)
Managerial Economics (UL)
Comparative Economics and Global Business 1800-Present (UL)

Thanks for taking the time to give me specifics, I appreciate that. Great leads. Do you happen to know if EC would take edx courses as credits by chance? I have a feeling they want more dedicated coursework vs module based stuff but there seems to be a few that claim to be credit worthy. They have some interesting material there.

The Institutes (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters) have something like 20 ACE credits of upper level or graduate level finance:

https://www.theinstitutes.org/doc/ace.pdf

I know nothing about these, but they are intriguing. I would love if you could take them all and report back.

https://www.pearson.com/us/higher-educat...nance.html

This Propero class is listed as upper level in the ACE database, but Pearson lists it as lower level.

The Statistics.com course looks interesting, but it has a prereq course, so it would be pretty expensive (and take a while) to get through both of those courses - and that assumes that they would then come in as Finance courses.

The Propero course is the same as most other Intro to Finance courses, but twice (or 3x) as expensive, so I'd go with a different provider for that.
