TECEP's at TESC
#1
Hey everyone,
I have gotten a lot of help from these forums, so I wanted to reach out and help you guys if I could.
I have taken four TECEP's and am planning on 3 or 4 more.
I am a student at TESC and am about 3/4 the way through my degree. (BA Psych)

The Science of Nutrition (BIO-208-TE100)
Marriage and the Family (SOC-210-TE100)
Medical Terminology (APS-100-TE100)
Psychology of Women (PSY-270-TE100)

Marriage and the Family is the only one that I am not sure I passed, because I still haven't gotten my grades back yet.

I did not read all of the course or required material for any of the TECEP's that I took. I relied mostly on the study guide and looked up any terms that I wasn't familiar with. I also used whatever Quizlet vocab lists I could find for the exams online.

Although I passed each of them only by a small margin (70-75), I passed mostly on basic knowledge I have from work (I'm an EMT, so that helped with Medical Terminology), other courses I've taken, and life experience (Psychology of Women)

Many of the questions asked on the study guide are actually asked on the test itself, which is pretty rare for these kinds of exams. Usually (like with CLEP) they don't want to give you too much info up front.

On the Medical Terminology one, I did read a little of the Saylor course, but was totally overwhelmed and because it was only a 1 credit course, I felt that the info was too much. If you dont already have background knowledge on medical terminology then I would skip this one because its not worth the effort for only 1 credit. If you are going to take it, know the basic systems and general functions of each organ. Also, what helped me a lot is knowing the prefixes, because if I didn't know a specific answer, I could extrapolate from the prefix.

Also, the Psychology of Women TECEP was pretty straightforward and I was pretty confident that I had passed it. I was shocked to receive a failure notice in the mail. When I called to ask if there was any way to find out what exactly I got wrong because I had been sure I had passed it, the clerk just replied with ""Oh, that was a mistake, you actually passed it."
So, make sure that you call to double check if you feel like you passed an exam and got a failing grade.

That's all for now, but feel free to ask me specific questions and I will answer if I can!
Good luck
