TESC - BA Social Sciences? Liberal Studies?
#1
Hi, I'm thinking of applying to TESC to finish up my BA. While I have not even applied yet, I've read it takes a few weeks for a transcript evaluation. At this point, I want to pick a program that I can finish the quickest. It seems to me that the Social Sciences program might fit my credits best, but of course, I could be wrong. If possible, could someone look over the credits I've earned and see what they think? They're formatted a little differently, as they've been taken from 2 different schools transcripts, so I guess just really focus on the class names/course numbers. Thanks. I'd appreciate it greatly.

Hello.

I would love to be able to help you. I would not mind putting together a sample degree plan for you but I'm having a hard time trying to tell how many credits you earned per course.

If it will help you any, I have attached my sample degree plans for both my AA and BA in Communications Degree. I too am not officially enrolled as of yet but I will be probably by the end of August 2008.

So you can plug in the courses yourself in the sample degree plans to see what you come up with.

Also, if you are not really pressed on time and don't mind waiting up to 6 weeks, you can send an application in to TESC & EC and wait for your "unofficial evaluation." They both charge $75 for the application I believe (I know TESC does for sure). That way you can know that you know instead of just speculating.

Hope this info helps you.

From a loyal degree seeker,

Marshall

LIT-203 099WB World Lit to 1650 A 3.00

Free Electives 27 NEEDED / 0 COMPLETED

Ok- for what it's worth, there are a ton of social science exams that you can take which won't duplicate credit for those in your major. If you get your eval, you can determine exactly which ones will work. Print out pages 104-106 of the college catalog to see the equivalency chart.

You are SUPER close. I think you could finish your degree in under 2 months if you use FEMA for your free electives. You are only around 2-4 tests away from the BA Social Science degree  So enroll already!?!?!?!

You know what Jennifer?.........................I REALLY HATE IT WHEN YOU OUTDO ME!!!!!!!hilarious

You did a fantastic job on that "Cookderosa" evaluation!!!! Maybe you can take a look at mine when you get a chance ay'?!!!!!!

I just wanted to add my 2 cents about the FEMA too. Too piggy off of what Jennifer said, that seems to be all you really need to finish. I don't know how familiar you are with the FEMA courses but they are free and you can knock those out rather quickly.

You'll be done with your degree in no time at all.....I'm wondering why it took you so long!!!!!!!!!! (j/k)!!!!!

I wish you well on your journey and I do believe that TESC will be the better option for you because they are alot more lenient when it comes to the application of Upper Level Credits as opposed to Excelsior College.

Welcome 2 Instantcert and I wish you well on your educational journey.

Peace be with you.

Marshall

P.S: JENNIFER...you're the best!!!!!!!

Wow, thanks a lot! I'm going to a TESC information session tomorrow (Friday) -- as long as I like what they have to say, I'll be applying Friday afternoon.

I'm not at all familiar what FEMA credits are (though I've seen them mentioned in a number of threads I've read) -- so if someone could explain those, that would also be a huge help.

As for the credits I've earned, those are all 3 credit classes, and if I calculated right, it should come out to 84 credits.

Thanks again.

I'd be interested to hear how your meeting goes. You won't get to use all 84 credits, as I mentioned above, you have 2 duplicates. You'll likely get 78, but they won't be able to tell you that on the spot.
For FEMA, do a search on this board....it's gonna make your day (or your week...heck, it might even make your year- seriously) hilarious

Marshall- you crack me up. Besides, you don't take my advise anyway!!!

Update after Information Session:

1. Very informative, and worth the 1.5 hour drive to Trenton from North Jersey.

2. I've read in a few places on the board TESC consider 200 level "upper level" -- I asked this question today and the woman said "300-400" is "upper level."

3. I will be applying for Liberal Studies, as I was told that program is the "kindest" towards a lot of transfer credits.

Thanks again.

The person who you spoke to is mistaken. TESC absolutely -100%- beyond a shadow of a doubt-i'd bet you my first born son- counts 200 level and above as "upper level." According to Dr. Keel on the TESC Official board, they are hiring a lot of new advisors to help with the work load, I think you got someone new.

Second, while liberal studies is kindest, you don't need it. Your credits are in social science- you ALREADY have your major earned!?!?!? That's for people without a major. Sorry, whoever you spoke to is an idiot.

That said, it is totally your decision.

Wow Jennifer...I didn't know you could be so hostile!!!!!!! Thank God I'm on your good side huh?!?!?!!!!!

Just teasin'.Smile

You know I always concur with your hostile assessments!!!hilarious

So livingproof if you want a second opinion...I second that stated by Jennifer...whoever you spoke to is a complete idiot!!!

-Case dismissed-hilarious

You guys did such a good job reviewing Livingproof's info, how about reviewing mine. I have deciced to go to TESC for a BA. I amnot sure I understand where my credits fit in. I have 1 more transcript I haven't sent to TESC yet and I think I have Anatomy & psy. I & II passed on that.
I have attached my current TESC eval.

So my question is If I go to TESC for a BA in Liberal Studies what would my concentration be in?

AND I should have at least 2 more chemistry classes I can PLA out of. I would like to test out of as much of the rest as possible. What test can I take to fill in the gaps and get my BA ASAP?

Thanks for the advice

I thought I had it figured out but some things are confusing me.
