TESC Equivalencies - Penn Foster
#1
After a suggestion by Zenurez, I decided to update the TESC Equivalencies with Penn Foster courses. If you have taken Penn Foster courses and they have been transcribed by TESC please respond and I will update the spreadsheet.

Let's narrow the date range to anything after 1/1/13 since there have been so many changes at TESC.

Thanks for the help.

I saw that post, but I am not sure of KayV's source so I figured I would query those who have had them transcribed. This is no slight toward KayV, I just don't want to be responsible for giving out information that I haven't verified. Thanks for the link though.

I'm currently enrolled in 4 courses but haven't had them transcribed by TESC. As they come back I'll update this thread.

I did receive confirmation from TESC that PennFoster FIN 101 Financial Management will transfer as FIN 301 Principles of Finance. There is no proctored final exam required on this course. The course includes a book, calculator, some video clips and a 6 exams total.

The other course that I think most people know about is PF Strategic Management fulfills the TESC requirement as well. This one contains 4 exams, one paper, some class discussion and three "webinars" that are really a kind of guided group discussion via chat.

There was somebody on this forum who was doing a BSBA in Marketing using courses from PF. I wish I could remember who. All her courses were listed in the signature . . .hopefully they can post and fill in more blanks.

Appreciate the thread and the response on it. I'm fearing the Principles of Finance DSST at this point (although as I'm military I can at least get one free shot at it), so knowing we have alternatives gives me peace of mind.

I agree this subject has already been covered. KayV's list, now a wiki page, was created 6/23/13. The only stipulation I would add is before you choose a PF course, be sure to check ACE to confirm the latest credit recommendation.

I understand that this subject has been discussed, but I wasn't able to tell from the thread if KayV based the equivalencies on courses that have been accepted by TESC or best guess based on ACE acceptance and comparable course descriptions. That is why I asked for input from people who have had courses transcribed.

I understood your point, the only issue is not many DF members have used or have knowledge of the available PF courses. In my years on this forum it has been strictly word of mouth. I introduced securities and investments as an upper level finance course. I was also the first on this forum to take consumer behavior thinking it could be used as an elective in the HR/OM program. This is why it pays to have advising approve these courses before you take them. Especially when they have not been used before in a certain area or have yet to be evaluated. Or, at the very least, have a set precedent in which you can argue your case if necessary. (Cut and paste from someone's evaluation as proof of use. They will then, in more cases than not, make an exception.) Otherwise you might be very disappointed; I learned this lesson the hard way.

Any who, all of the courses listed below, have been either used or approved for me (or someone I know-strategic mgmt) at one time or another. All are currently ACE approved. The only change, which I noted on the wiki site, business statistics is no longer an upper level course.* Thank you straighterline (sarcasm).

Format - PF/TESC

The majority utilize the following:
Business & Technical Writing ENG121 / Business Letter & Report Writing I ENG216
Financial Management FIN101 / Principles of Finance FIN301
Strategic Business Management BUS425 / Strategic Management BUS421
Intermediate Accounting 1&2 ACC201&ACC202 / Intermediate Accounting I&II ACC201&ACC202
Once SL added Business Comm and Financial Accounting 2 of the 5 listed above slacked off.

Lesser used courses:
Consumer Behavior MKT320 / Consumer Behavior MAR351
Marketing Research MKT260 / Marketing Research MAR411
Securities & Investments FIN305 / Security Analysis & Portfolio Management FIN321
Business Statistics MAT210 / Business Statistics STA201
The HR Electives:
Labor Relations HRM350 / Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining MAN321
Compensation Mgmt HRM210 / Compensation Administration HRM341
Employee Benefits HRM320 / Employee Benefits HRM337
Training Concepts HRM355 / Training Administration HRM366

* I wonder if you took Business Statistics at a 4yr university (vs an ACE recommended vendor), it would then transfer as OPM351. At some schools you shouldn't even attempt Business Stats without a strong calc background.
