TESC Evaluation depression
#1
I'm going to whine a little, wine a lot, and then get back to work.
Just got my eval. from TESC...they are NOT giving credit for Alek 0001 Beginning Algebra, and since they filled up my free electives with my old nursing classes (Pharmacology, Human body etc) and Here's to your Health (which I thought would fall under natural science or general education) I have 37 useless fema and nfa credits.
I know I shouldn't complain...they were free and I learned a lot- now I know how to handle my theoretical cattle herd during a theoretical natural disaster Big Grin , but the part that makes me want to :puke: is I HAVE TO TAKE ANOTHER MATH! That is enough to send me screaming into the night!

OK, I'm done ranting...now for a little personal research on Substance Abuse...then back to studying.

That problem was supposed to be fixed. I would write a problem ticket and call an advisor. Aleks beginning algebra should get credit as MAT-102 General Math I. You also might want to ask a human to look at those nursing courses again some of them should deffinetly fall under natural sciences.

I know you don't want to whine to much, but the squeaky wheel does get oiled.

And if I didn't whine on this board once in a while I would probably explode, this is my release valve.

I went through this last week. In August the evaluated Aleks Beginning Algebra and changed it to developemental credit. In other words they no longer give any credit for Aleks Beg Algebra. I need to take Intermediate now for credit.

I am sorry your hard work didn't get credit. Is it possible that you've learned enough to take the College mathematics CLEP?

I am going to try it out this Saturday because I don't want to work on ALEKS for the next three months. If I pass, then I am done with math. If I don't, well, then I was going to do the ALEKS stuff anyhow..

Check out the feedback and the flashcards and see if you think you could study enough to pass. It's a six credit exam.

I would be really upset too, knowing that you did all that work and you won't be able to use them as credits  . If it is any consolation-- your sense of humor made my morning Smile. See your quote below --- This is priceless :roflol:

Thank you for the sympathy! (She says...holding her head and cursing the empty bottle of 2008 vintage home-made wine).
I guess this is worth squeaking over- I have sent an email to TESC asking for clarification on how they awarded some of the credits. Nothing ventured...well, you know the rest.
It especially would seem to me that the NFA hydraulic should fall under Math or Nat. Science, and that Pharmacology and Human Body Structure and Function should both fall under Natural Science, but logic may not have much to do with it. I've been a nurse for 25 years- I understand arbitrary and illogical!
I will post the answer to these burning questions when I hear back from TESC.
(And no...Clepping algebra is not a current option. I did the Aleks algebra in Feb. when I was snowed in for weeks at a time, and once the credit showed up on ACE I had a ceremonial burning of the notes. Dumb... I know. But at the time intensely satisfying.)

Don't rule it out just yet. IC flashcards are enough if you've already done ALEKS. Ha.. maybe I should speak after I take the test, but going off of feedback and flashcards, it looks like there are very few items that I haven't seen either on ALEKS or in high school (and I didn't get very far in H.S. math). Also keep in mind, I'm not talking about CLEP College Alegbra. I am referring to CLEP College Mathematics. It's supposed to be easier than College Algebra and for me at COSC (which is a little stricter than TESC) it will fulfill the math requirement. Anyhow.. unless you're totally against it, I would recommend doing a quick forum search to see what others have to say..

Just an update... I did hear back from the advisor, and unfortunately he agreed right down the line with what was on my original evaluation.
So I do have to take another math (boo, hiss!@#$%&*) and my nursing classes(including anatomy and pharmacology) are only accepted as free electives. So I have a surplus of FEMA and NFA credits...wish I could share them with someone! I keep telling myself that knowledge is never wasted, but that's thin comfort looking down the list of 30 more liberal arts credits that I now need.
(Reading about TESC's graduation was very inspiring. Congratulations to all the new grads, and I hope to join you in a year or so! Next week- Substance Abuse and Ethics in America- sort of a warped logic to that combination. LOL!)Rolleyes
