TESU Launches Office of Career Development
#1
Information
This debut actually happened at the start of this year, but no one commented on it yet:
Quote:As we ring in the new year, and as a part of the university’s ongoing commitment to respond to the needs of working adults, Thomas Edison State University is launching the Office of Career Development to help students and alumni identify and advance their career and professional goals.

The Office of Career Development website offers resources and one-on-one assistance on a variety of topics including:
  • Developing concrete career plans
  • Writing, updating, and polishing your resume/CV, cover letter or LinkedIn profile
  • Finding and seeking new professional opportunities
  • Preparing for interviews
  • Identifying the skillsets to market to employers
  • Connecting with job opportunities
  • Applying to graduate or professional school
  • Negotiating job offers
As we celebrate the University’s 50th Anniversary, we are proud to launch the Office of Career Development and welcome the dedicated staff who will assist students and alumni in their career trajectories. Our staff is happy to offer one-on-one career coaching, career education through workshops and webinars, and hands-on critiques of career materials including resumes/CV, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles.

Here's the Office of Career Development Website. They have numerous virtual workshop sessions every month covering a variety of topics. TESU also provides students with access to the Career Central job search tool.

It's nice to see TESU adding these services. They're a moderately expensive university, yet they've long lacked career services and other departments common at other institutions, even community and technical colleges.

We have a lot of international students that go to TESU. I wonder if they'll help all students, or tell international ones that they're on their own.

The job market is REALLY different in some countries, so I wouldn't blame TESU if they only helped US students.

My guess is... Most of the strategies, tips, and tricks are geared towards adult learners and what they want to achieve after they graduate. This is without any international focus, the student being local or not would have no effect on what they will assist with. I guess they will provide assistance in a general or generalized nature... It's up to the student to further make sure their strategies cater to their current locale and situation.
