In fact, that route is now quite a bit cheaper than using the residency waiver and taking alternative credit:
Application Fee 50
Graduation Fee 298
At least 16 credits including SOS-110 and capstone: 3963
One month of Study.com and two exams: 200
Total: $4511
Of course, not everyone wants, or will be able, to take that many TESU courses in one year.
The flat rate isn't per year it's per term and it isn't at least 16 credits, it's between 11-16. So that means the person would have to be comfortable with taking at least 3 other courses at the same time as the capstone.
But you are right it is cheaper, I didn't even think of that.

Yeah, that makes quite a bit of difference. I edited my post to correct that little error. It's still an interesting path, although that extra one credit (5 courses = 15 credits) becomes a nuisance. I suppose you'd have to add on the one credit Jane Austen course to get exactly 16.

I was already stressing about how to afford the residency waiver, and now this.
I really wish I hadn't chosen TESU for my studies. It seems to me that they really don't want "us" (nontraditional/test out students) at their college. Otherwise why keep doing things like this. I guess I will end up having to get a personal loan next year to try to pay for the way-more-expensive residency waiver plus capstone.

You have to do 16 in order to avoid the residency waiver.
Also if you are doing 16 credits you have to do everything else done to get to the 100 for capstone registration.
With the cornerstone gone I wonder why TESU didn't change it to 15 credits this year for residency.

Oh no. I'm starting the capstone on July 1st, the rest of my coursework is done. Can I prepay the residency waiver before July 1st? I think I'm eligible for December graduation.

The Residency Waiver lasts for 1 year or 1 BA/BS degree, whichever comes first.
I personally would not pay $2200 now in the hopes of finishing my degree and graduating that far out. ANYTHING can happen between now and then, and if something does happen and you can't finish, you'd have to pay the $2200 AND another $2800. No thanks. I say that at this point, if you're not taking the capstone and getting ready to apply for graduation, let it go.
You are STILL getting a degree for less than $10k. And you still have time to change your mind if you want to switch to EC or COSC or WGU or whatever, if TESU's prices get too high.

In the past it has lasted for a year, but you're taking a risk if you don't graduate on time for some reason.

My work will pay for the residency waiver but I don't know if this is an exception to the rule or not. I sent a note to the TA and HR dept and basically said "hey, I saved you a butt ton of money paying for this myself so can you pay this fee". They answered yes promptly
It can't ever hurt to ask.
