TESU Residency Fee Waiver Increase for 2019/2020

16 credits is a LOT on TESU's system. It might not sound like a lot, because 15 is a normal credit load at a normal school, but TESU has a mismatch between their credit hour system and their term length. They use quarter length terms, so if you convert the credits to quarter hours you get 24. When I wanted to do 25 quarter credits at a CC, I had to beg and plead and meet with three different administrators to get permission, each step of the way providing documentation that I was of well above-average academic ability. They were still hesitant to approve it. I did pull it off, with a 4.0 no less, but that was without working.

Long story short: 16 credits in a term is going to be too much for most people, especially when the Capstone is one of them.

I've also read that labs are generally similar to 2 credit classes in terms of time spent.

Regardless it is now cheaper to take 16 redits in one term at TESU than it is to transfer in 114 credits abd take only two courses.

Oh  Forgot about their Info Lit course being 3 credits.

I'm wondering if all 16 credits have to be applied to the degree to avoid the residency fee or if you just have to take them? For example, I only need two courses, but could I avoid the fee if I just took whatever for the other courses?

You just have to take them. Even if they did have a bizarre rule like that, they could just use the courses you take as your free electives.

Someone serious about doing this might want to consider ePack courses (which do count towards residency). That should help with managing their schedule. They should also be ready to do a course extension or two as a fallback if needed to make sure they make their grades.

Keep in mind you would have to actually take/complete the courses as they impact your GPA with TESU; they have a 2.0 GPA graduation requirement which applies to any courses taken through them.  Also it is not just the cost of the classes, you have to add on all the books and other materials required for each course (that could add up to big dollars)

@Ideas @DaveWill @Allvia Oh ... e-pack plus course extension plus a one credit class might be the answer as long as I don't fail any courses. I'm not that worried about textbooks because I can often rent them on Amazon. The other thing is -- I'm not sure how this will work with financial aid.

I was thinking of extending more than one course rather than a second extraction on a single course.

Looks like doing it twice wouldn't be too much trouble, actually, though that seems to be the maximum.
