TESU Residency Waiver vs Taking Courses
#1
TESU Pell Grant & 16 Credits vs Residency Waiver Fee
Have questions in regards to completing the credits vs paying the Residency Waiver?
Here are two recent threads in regards to the Pell Grant and taking 16 credits
Link 1: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...ant--34972?
Link 2: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...16-credits?

RECAP TLDR (Too Long, Didn't Read): In short, this years Pell Grant Max is $6345.
Basically/Essentially, TESU has 4 terms a year, each term is 12 weeks in length.
Full Time is 6 credits/term.  You can get a full award of Pell Grant each term.
The maximum Pell Grant you get is $2115 per term for 6 credits you take.
You can and should contact TESU to spread the amount over 3 terms instead of 4.

Tuition for TESU with Study.com Tuition Discount & Pell Grant
$6345 (Pell Grant Total for the year or 3 terms)
$2274 for 6 credits each term ($379/credit x 6)
$6822 is 3 terms for 18 credits (would be $2274 x 3)
$477 is total tuition of TESU (would be $6822 - $6345)

Tuition for NJ Resident without Study.com Discount & Pell Grant
$6345 (Pell Grant Total for the year or 3 terms)
$2394 for 6 credits each term ($399/credit x 6)
$7182 is 3 terms for 18 credits (would be $2394 x 3)
$837 is total tuition of TESU (would be $7182 - $6345)

Tuition for Non Resident without Study.com Discount & Pell Grant
$6345 (Pell Grant Total for the year or 3 terms)
$3114 for 6 credits each term ($519/credit x 6)
$9342 is 3 terms for 18 credits (would be $3114 x 3)
$2997 is total tuition of TESU (would be $9342 - $6345)

So, how would you best use the Pell Grant and what way would you use it in?
You need to complete 102+ credits through transfer credit and take 18 at TESU
Pretend I wanted an ASNSM Bio, AAS Environmental Safety Security, BACS, BSBA
You need to hit all the requirements entirely through transfer credit
The institutional required courses must be completed at TESU, use the Pell for it

I'm all about the ROI/Value - If I wanted to get 2 Associates & 2 Bachelors
This is how I would use the Pell Grant, selectively take 2 courses each term
Term 1) APS 295 Associates Capstone and SOS 204 Academic Community Impact
Term 2) SOS 110 Cornerstone and LIB-495 Liberal Arts Capstone
Term 3) BUS-421 Business Capstone and any elective 3 credit LL or UL course

For those who aren't eligible for Pell Grant because you've got a degree already or something...
You have the option of doing 16 credits through a flat-rate tuition option at TESU.
The pricing is different for In-State and Out-Of-State, decide to use it or pay the residency fee

Really great information, I appreciate you bringing it all together like this. So if I'm understanding it correctly, if you can, you are better off (financially speaking) taking 16 credits throughout a few terms rather than taking all of them in a single term? I may want to start taking courses with them soon if that's the case

I always got the impression a Pell Grant was for people making like 20K a year. Is that the case?

Not necessarily. https://studentloanhero.com/featured/faf...-aid-2018/

There are different levels of Pell Grants. The more income you have, the less money you'll get for your Pell Grant.

Just to clarify on TESU site it states
"Students registering for 9 or more credits per term will receive the discounted Full-Time Flat-Rate Tuition."
https://www.tesu.edu/tuition/flat-rate-tuition

So is it 16 or 9 credit for full time flat rate?

9 per term is full time. 16 over the span of your entire degree gets you the residency waiver.

Thanks for this! I actually just PM’d the OP of those posts to clarify yesterday. Wish I could have gotten the Study.com affiliate discount.

I wouldn't expect to receive a PELL grant. Especially the full award. You also may receive a partial one one year and not the next.

Is taking more then 9 credits a term feasible when working full time? I am considering it so I can use Pell Grant. I had a transplant so my income is so low I qualify for a full grant.
