TESU refusing SDC discount
#1
I’ve been going back and forth all week trying to get my SDC membership registered with TESU. I verified with my Student Success contact that I needed only a verification of enrollment from SDC to successfully link my accounts and get the discount.

I asked SDC for verification and they had no idea what I was talking about. After escalating up the support chain they sent a pdf with their logo at the top and listed my start date and what classes I was taking.

I forwarded that to TESU and get a reply saying that’s not the right form and they need something else that included SDC letterhead on the form.

My husband also contacted SDC to verify his enrollment and he was sent the EXACT same form, but they also sent it to transcripts@tesu. We’re still waiting to hear if that’s going to be enough.

Now my student success contact is saying I was a student prior to 2016 and therefore not eligible for any discounts.

I’ve never taken a class or bought a TECEP through TESU. I’ve only send my transcripts for evaluation.

Was getting an evaluation back in 2015 enough to be considered enrolled? And does that void out any opportunity for a discount?

Not sure what we’re going to do. At this point TESU is becoming too expensive to be an option.

An evaluation is not enrollment. You have actually enroll which is it's own process. TESU may have a fee for enrollment as well. The rules and catalog since 2015 have changed. Search on here and you'll see there were recent changes to the TESU SDC discount.

I know they’re changing it up and that’s why I’ve been trying all week to get everything connected.

What I’m confused about is why they are denying it. I started SDC at the beginning of June and they didn’t tell me until an hour ago that I wasn’t eligible. I’ve been in constant contact with TESU and it’s just now coming up... now that I’m out of time.

Unfortunately, you need to be enrolled with TESU. Right now it seems you are only an applicant and they won’t apply the status for those. As to why they didn’t tell you, it can be a range of things from, not caring to look if you were enrolled, to the person not knowing.

The usual route is to enroll in a TECEP but even then it takes 10 days from the starting date, as far as I can remember.

As you said, it looks like you are out of time.

I am enrolled. I enrolled back in May....

I enrolled in May 2020. I paid for SDC college accelerator. I asked SDC to send verification of enrollment. They did.

TESU said it wasn’t good enough. Then today, TESU said I “was accepted as a student” (now they’re not saying enrolled) and therefore ineligible for the SDC discount.

Did you enroll with TESC in May? Up above you asked about 2015 and you weren't enrolled then.

Being accepted and enrolled are two different things.

Being accepted and enrolled are two different things.

To clarify, being enrolled means you have registered for a course at TESU and that course has been completed or begun at least 10 days ago. This can be a regular course or a TECEP exam. If that didn't happen, you are not enrolled.

Also, getting your TESU account flagged for SDC doesn't require a specific form. But there are two ways to do it: The first way requires you to have specified "Study.com affiliate" on your TESU application. The second option requires contacting TESU after the fact to have the flag added after you've had your transcripts evaluated.

In either case, to qualify (or prove eligibility) you need to complete at least one ACE or NCCRS credit-eligible course from Study.com, send your Study.com transcript to TESU and have the transcript evaluated, and wait for those courses placed on your academic record.

If you applied as an SDC affiliate, you should be good at that point, though you should confirm. If you did not do have that checked on your application you need to contact TESU via phone or open a ticket to ask them to add the Study.com corporate affiliation to your account.

To confirm your affiliate status you can click on your Profile link in OSS and look under the Student Status field. If it has been applied, it should show "CPPEN Corporate Choice" followed by "Enrolled" or "Applied" in that field (this also shows whether you are an actively enrolled student or only an applicant). If it doesn't include the Corporate Choice text at all, you are NOT flagged for the SDC discount and will need to contact TESU again.

I’m not sure how to be any clearer.

I enrolled in May 2020 with a TECEP.

I am officially a TESU student.

They are telling me that because I applied in 2015 and was “accepted as a student” I am not eligible for SDC discount.

I did not enroll in 2015, but I applied. They are counting it against me.

They would not flag my account for SDC with just an email. They required an official document from my SDC “coach” verifying my enrollment in SDC. Once the help desk sent the document, they said it wasn’t enough. After getting an official document, they said I wasn’t eligible anyway.

That's great! It is good that we're all speaking the same language. A lot of people confuse enrollment for application or registration.

Well, it sounds like you need to call and speak to a supervisor or otherwise escalate the issue since that is not how the SDC corporate affiliation process has worked for the majority of TESU students on this forum over the last few years. Yes, they prefer people to indicate their SDC affiliation on their application, but they have never required it. They've always been happy to add the flag manually when requested. TESU is notorious for people making things up on the fly when they don't know the answer to something rather than asking for help. That or they are purposefully giving you the run around because they are being told not to apply the Study.com corporate affiliation anymore.

In any case, this is the first time I've ever heard of them asking for some document from a Study.com coach, whatever that is. The most official document you can get is an official transcript from Study.com showing that you have completed courses from them. That is all they have ever requested in the past. It should not matter when you applied or enrolled at TESU. I applied to TESU in fall of 2017 but didn't add the SDC discount to my account until summer or fall of 2018 (right before the application expired). I didn't have any issues or require any of the hoops they are asking you to jump through. I just made a call, they looked up my transcript to confirm that I had transferred courses from SDC and added the flag right there while I was on the line.

I think it's probably too late now. They were pretty clear that it had to be "noted" on my account on or before 6/30 regardless of when I started SDC. This rejection is apparently coming from the Office of Strategic Partnerships at TESU and delayed everything just enough that I missed the deadline.

Sorry if I sounded unkind earlier. This was a hell of a blow. The discount was a vital part of us being able to afford finishing our education. I'm absolutely gutted because now it's just simply not in the budget. This plus the RWF going up again... sigh.
