To finish BA - school recommendations (not TESU, COSC, or EC)
#1
I'm asking this for a friend (no, seriously lol).

He thrives in structure, but not when it's a free-for-all independent study "do at your own pace" kind of plan. So doing random study.com or Straighterline-type courses are out.

He wants to get his BA. He has 87 transferable college credits (none are upper level) that he can swing to different schools.

Before recommending that he go to Amberton, I wanted to know if anybody else knew of a cheaper online traditional BA school? He does not qualify for any type of financial aid.

Reason I was going to recommend Amberton:

-no proctored exams
-semesters are 10 weeks each
-reasonably priced (about 265$/credit)
-just do your homework timely and well = get a passing grade, move on to the next course
-no capstone or thesis
-accepts up to 87 credits from all sources (community college, CLEPs, etc.) - which he has - so he'd only be about 11-12 courses away from getting it.

Anybody else know of some BA-offering colleges that might be cheapish and structured like a traditional online college that is similar in Amberton's pros?

You might check out Fort Hayes State at $218.67 per credit.

He could also consider using the Comprehensive Tuition plan at TESU. If he were to max out with 36 credits a year, with the Study.com discount, it would come to $209 per credit. He would need to do a capstone.

You posted in the Big 3 sub-forum, but you don't want the Big 3 as recommendations. This should be moved to the general education sub-forum.

Amberton is not a traditional school, and 10-week semesters are not offered at most traditional schools unless you're only looking at the minority of schools that are on the quarter hour system. I don't know if they have proctored exams, but Fort Hays State University, Chadron State College, and Peru State College are cheap.

That list is a lot to ask for, especially if you want something traditional. College is not for everyone, but if the person can do CLEP, then he should have no problem with online proctoring. It's more convenient than CLEP.

https://nau.edu/online/bs-liberal-arts-pl/

NAU is self paced/competency based but it's pretty reasonably priced. They have a BA or BS in liberal studies. They accept up to 90 credits in transfer, military credits, CLEPs, DSST, AP, etc and ACE alternative credit project( may mean they would accept other ACE credits, not sure).

I can't find any definitive degree plans for them but I thought I'd mention them in general for people to consider in the future.

Would competency based degree programs work for your friend? If so, they can look into programs from Brandman, Northern Arizona University, WGU, U Wisconsin, and a few others such as APUS, Capella, Purdue, Walden.

CSU Pueblo Independent Study has two undergraduate degrees available, Criminology and Sociology. The classes are $555 per 3 hour class.  Some are independent study on your own schedule and some follow a traditional semester schedule.  You can find information on the degrees here https://www.csupueblo.edu/extended-studi...grams.html

The OP said that his friend does not do well in self-paced courses. He's looking for structure, so I don't think competency-based programs would work.
