Today I begin my doctoral journey!
#1
I just enrolled in a CAGS (cert of adv grad studies) in E-commerce at NCU.
Its a 6 course program that consists of doctoral level e-commerce courses that end in a capstone and a diploma.
All of the courses can be transferred into the PhD or DBA programs.
As an alumni, I qualify for a $120 per course discount and since prices are increasing next year, I locked in this years prices by paying for 2 courses up front.

This begins my doctoral journey!

So if I do my PhD or DBA at NCU it will be as follows:

1. 1 year of CAGS for 18 doctoral credits - CAGS transfer into PhD at NCU for one's specialization
2. 6 months of basic courses I already covered in my MBA for 12 credits
3. 15 credits of research methods and advanced statistics for Phd OR 9 credits of research methods for DBA
4. 3 credits, comprehensive exam
5. 4 Dissertation courses for 12 credits
BSBA CIS from TESC, BA Natural Science/Math from TESC
MBA Applied Computer Science from NCU
Enrolled at NCU in the PhD Applied Computer Science

Ha ha - I knew you wouldn't stay out of the "classroom" for long Wink I can't wait to see how your progress. My bro (the COSC alum) is working towards his PhD at NCU, but is now taking a break to do a one year cert in internet marketing, so you may have some valuable info that I can share with him.

Besides... you never know.. I am almost certain I will be done with school (other than perhaps getting another undergrad through mostly CLEP/DSST) after I finish my masters, but if your program sounds good, I might reconsider lol, though I have absolutely no idea what I would do with a doctorate.

Nice!!
Congrats. But better you than me :roflol:
I think I will stay at the graduate level, finish the two masters I'm working on and maybe a third from Texas A&M University, but that is as far as I want to go. Keep us posted on your journey and progress.

Thanks guys. The way I see it, this 18 credit CAGS is less of an investment than a second masters and it is doctoral level credit.
I might never go beyond the CAGS or I might do another masters or just some extra courses afterward, but it makes sense to me right now.
It was a nice bonus to get $120 off per course.

Burbuja, which PhD is he working on?

I plan on finishing this CAGS in 8 months or so and then I will take a break and see what, if anything, is next.

Good question - I'll have to ask. All I know is that he was looking at business and said that he made his choice based on the fact that he thought that having "PhD" behind his name would be more meaningful to his career than DBA. I'll post an update soon.

I agree that PhD sounds much better. In my line of work, a DBA is a database administrator Smile
If I told someone I was a DBA, they might ask me to grant them increased access rights to the database Smile

All one needs to do to sound intelligent is to say "one" instead of the more informal "you" Wink

You don't. You tell them "I'm a doctor". Smile

What will such a program run you in total?
