Trouple contacting Excelsior counselors via email

Does anybody else have this problem. I submitted my $75 application fee 2 weeks ago and received my acceptance letter from Excelsior almost immediately. I had some email correspondence with the Admissions department about my CC and Straighterline transcripts, which they received a day or two after my registration. All of my CLEP an d DANTES info had already been sent there, so that was already in their hands. Since that point, I cannot get a response from them about my credits or degree program, either by email, or through MyExcelsior messaging. It’s been about a week and 3-4 different attempts without a response... Any suggestions?

I only had some issues with the health science side, but the liberal arts side was always very responsive. Which school are you enrolled in? You may want to call them. I have done that too. If you are in either school I can give you some names, but it is possible that you haven't been assigned an advisor yet or that they are on spring break. Our schools here are on spring break, so many employees have taken off. Good luck.

Also, once they receive all of your transcripts, it takes about 3-4 weeks for them to complete the unofficial evaluation. You (and they) will know a lot more about your situation after you see that.

School of Business, so I'll give them a call this afternoon. I'm just a bit ansty and want to be sure that the direction I'm heading doesn't include me taking any redundant exams or classes. I've taken too much time off, as my signature indicates, and I just want to get back to it... like yesterday.

NAP, I thought the evaluation was only 1-2 weeks. I might have just creatively heard those figures though. Thanks for the responses.

I can understand your being anxious to get the process going.

If I remember correctly, they say it takes 6 weeks, but mine took 3.

After you pay to enroll, you will be assigned an academic advisor, who will do an official evaluation and be able to approve your exam choices.

So, I called the admissions number and spoke to Julie, she was nice enough and explained that my review had only just started on 3/8 so I would get an email by 3/29 and then be able to enroll and be assigned a counselor. I explained to her that I just wanted a bit of reassurance that the 2 CLEPs I was preparing for, would work towards my degree. Being in Admissions, she couldn't help, but transferred me to one of the counselors... so I thought.

I'm not sure exactly what his job was but he could not have been more vague or less helpful. He wouldn't/couldn't give me any information at all. My frustration was increased when I went back through my emails and realized I had applied 2/28 and that EC had all my transcripts posted on 3/3, yet the clock didn't start to tick until 3/8.

I just want to start testing again. I realize that I am being dumb and that the tests will count, but, being half way there, I want some 'official' reassurance that my plan is sound, I've sent them the $$$, I just don't want to sit in limbo for a month.

Digging a bit deeper, I found a Washington DC phone number.... so, I called it. I spoke with one of the 'Civilian Counselors'. He was extremely helpful. He gave me his direct line and said he would call NY to see if there is any way to expedite the review. I am to call him back tomorrow. Good news or bad, I am feeling better that somebody listened and tried, well, at least pretended to try, to help.

I feel somewhat better now. Hopefully I will know what flashcards to work on this weekend...

I totally understand being anxious! I have been there! If you print their degree plan for your degree then look at the credit by examination guide you should be able to tell what exams will fall where in the degree plan. That is how I planned my exams. I didn't even approve my ECE's before taking them. When I registered for the exam it automatically sent an exam approval request to my advisor, but by the time I heard back from her I usually had already taken the exam. I figured if it was listed as accepted in their current catalog, they would have a hard time denying me credit. Maybe if you print off and compare these you can put yourself at ease with your current testing plan until they get back with you. Good luck and welcome back!
