Basically, if you're looking for more details about the institution, I would do a search, they've been talked about on the board and also on the sister board... You can decide for yourself if the institution and their degrees, tuition, etc are a good fit for your learning style. Here's an example, just with tuition alone, let's use the active duty price of $325/credit at the Masters level. Lets pretend a Masters from them is 30 credits, that means the tuition alone is $9750, there are additional fees... It's not a bad deal for the most part, but some may want to do cheaper, easier, maybe faster with CBE options such as the UMPI MAOL, HAU MBA, WGU MSML/MBA, etc.

Oh wow I originally dismissed UIU a while back because of its lack of courses I was interested in. It looks like there are so many more science courses! They could definitely be used for the TESU BA Biology (with mostly RA credits for medical school / grad school requirements) or a non-traditional DIY postbacc. Minimum 90 RA Credits (including all prereqs) + a BA/BS is required for medical school entrance. So 30 credits could be ACE/NCCRS for a 120 credit degree plan.

If UIU is 100% true to its "no proctoring for non-math courses", this would be HUGE for premed students looking to take the non-proctored course for cheap! I know that we have several cheaper options like Portage ($223/credit) . BUT, portage is Proctored and UIU is NOT. The only other mostly non-proctored science courses I have found are with APUS at $350/credit, but NOT self-paced.
Online - $515/credit
Self Paced Web Based - $350/credit
UIU FlexSemester - $515/credit (this is their option to take the self-paced courses during the semester BUT be able to use financial aid for 6+ credits for a 16 week semester)
This isn't widely understood but Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Schools (DO) are WAY MORE widely accepting of online courses than Doctor of Medicine (MD) programs are.
DO students match into the same specialties as MD students, however, they TREND more towards primary care like internal medicine and family medicine.
I don't need any of these courses because I've already gotten accepted to medical school. But I love to mentor other non-traditional online students trying to get into medical school.
I hate seeing people killing themselves by juggling in-person + proctored courses with work/life when they could save so much stress and energy taking online courses to get accepted into DO schools. I actually plan to write up a "DIY get into medical school cheaply and 100% online - and mostly non-proctored " in the near future.

They're a very good and valid option to get the RA credits towards entry into various health science or similar professional roles. Another option is getting the Human Biology Bachelors at Logan University, then applying for similar health related programs...

UIU Offers the Following Sciences/Prereqs (with lab too unless indicated) Non-Proctored (Non-Math) : DO schools are also more expensive in general (sometimes much more) and if you don't do well on your MCAT (obviously proctored), these easy check-the-box/non-proctored classes are pointless. Still have to know the material backwards and forwards. Also, DO grads can be at a disadvantage match-wise. Last time I checked, 60% go into primary care (vs 25% MD). Something to consider if you want optho...ortho...derm or other competitive residencies etc.
Is it theoretically possible to get into med school without taking any in-person classes? Yes, but you are also competing against 50k people who didn't take this route. Granted, if you absolutely crush your MCAT it might not matter much, but most people don't crush it...
I will read your guide, but given the nature of this forum, I think it's going to lull a lot of people in who think they can do it but don't understand what it actually takes. Getting into medical school isn't as easy as taking a bunch of self paced non non-proctored "gimme" exams for an easy A. DO schools are not stupid and will weigh GPA accordingly, depending on where the class was taken. Otherwise everyone would have 4.0s and the kids busting their ass at 6am labs at huge 4 year unis are massive suckers.

It's self-paced. I thought CBE and self-paced meant the same thing. What is the distinction?

I would not know what the distinction is for each institution, they've got learning systems that differ and their internal/external meaning can be different for each one. Here's an example, self paced may be limited to two classes at a time per semester, you complete the classes with deadlines though. A CBE for those would be two at a time, but you can continue on with more classes after the first two.

You just saved me from having to drive to the few community colleges (my alumni among others) and waiting another year to do some of these courses. I could have stretched these between the schools but each had separate requirements for some of these science classes that is becoming stressful to remember which class and keeping up with class time. I really do not want to add another school to order transcripts from and the cost is a tad higher than I like.
However, they're online and I do not have to drive. I can even do it part-time while focusing on learning the materials. The classes I feel I do not need an in person lab to attend can be knocked out online!
Thank you!
