Unicaf University
#1
Wondering if anyone in the forum has any information about Unicaf University. They have plenty of distance degree programs available, with their website stating:

Quote:Unicaf University offers fully online and on campus taught Bachelor, Master’s and Doctoral degrees in a wide range of subjects, including Management, Economics and Business, Psychology, Teaching, Law, Accountancy and Finance, English Literature, Computer Science, Web Design and Development and specialised MBA programmes for diverse industries and sectors.
Not a lot of information about the university as a whole, such as their fee structure and who can apply there. Hoping that someone in this forum will be able to give more information about this university.

I've never heard about them at all, which isn't an automatic disqualification. But the lack of transparency regarding fees is a big red flag. It appears that you have to pay the fees both to the partner university and to Unicaf University. But they don't tell you what those fees, such as the graduation fee, are. They may be completely on the up and up but I don't like it when universities do that.

I knew nothing about this program/school. It seems like it has a multi-level marketing aspect to it, which seems, shall we say, rather uncommon:

The school is accredited by Zambia and Malawi authorities. Despite what they say about the BAC, that does not make the Uni an authorized provider of UK degrees.

If a Malawi or Zambia degree will meet your needs...

Perhaps I should not have said "accredited" -I'm not sure that's the word, here. The school is LICENSED by Zambia and Malawi. I think it may have that status in Zimbabwe too. I have no idea whether or not that gives its degrees the same standing as mainstream Universities in these countries. The school (admin. offices in Cyprus) has a presence in 11 African countries, says the Wiki.

I've never seen a legit university have a .com. They always have a .edu. This place is in Zambia and Malawi so I wouldn't put much faith into it.

LOL, UNICAF University technically is not a university but a medium of taking classes and transferring them to the partner Africa or UK university. So, think of them like the usual ACE/NCCRS providers and getting specific courses transferred to say the Big 3 or other competency based degree providers.

Not quite, Bryan. If you read the whole thing (and that takes a while) it's not really a course-provider for transfer credit. For some programs, you are enrolled in one of the partner universities and do all your work for a degree through them. Others are taught on-ground at specific Unicaf campuses. I'm not even sure if all of those are available by distance from these African locations. Grad degrees especially - see Doctorates. They seem to be on-ground. Other grad degrees are "partnership" with other unis.

If you're thinking of taking individual courses and transferring credits from this Africa-licensed school - well, the best I can say is Bahati njema! That's Ki-Swahili for "Good luck!"

At the very least, you'd need a proper foreign evaluation for US use of ANYTHING from this school. We had a thread on this school in another forum and there was a UK partnership program. Africans got a very good deal - I think it was less than $2,000 for a UK MBA. Those from developed countries paid full UK rate. It was nowhere near what you could call "cheap".

Cost structure much higher for us. Not intended as individual course provider. Will require foreign evaluation. As I said before - "Bahati njema!" ...Or maybe you could rent a mailbox in Malawi and pay local tuition. (Just kidding!)

Where did you find the prices for the programs?

In the U.S. that's true. But .edu is not a global top level domain, it's only available to U.S. accredited institutions. There are a few exceptions that registered .edu domains before that rule was in place twenty-odd years ago, but not many.

I didn't. Never saw any price info on the UNICAF site. The only prices I saw were the two for the UK School's MBA, which were mentioned in the thread on the other forum. If I remember right, they were also posted on the UK school 's site, where the deal with UNICAF was fully explained.
