Hi all!
I searched but did not find a thread on UPPER LEVEL ACCOUNTING (particularly as it applies to Excelsior College).
I satisfied my lower level in communitiy college (Principles of Accounting I & II). This leaves me with a lot of upper level stuff such as:
- Intermediate Accounting I
- Intermediate Accounting II
- Cost Accounting
- Taxation (US Tax)
- Electives
It's very difficult for me to take in-person classes, and I am interested in saving money (aren't we all!). Learning the material is not an issue, I already know it; does anyone have any ideas on how to satisfy these requirements? Equivalency exam preferred, though I am open to online courses is the price is right.
Thank you and good luck to all!!!

LSU has independent study classes you can use for Excelsior. Look here:

To the best of my knowledge, equivalency exams for upper level accounting credits don't exist. However, Independent Study at LSU has all of the accounting courses you'll need and at $229 per course, the price is definitely good.
Each course will consist of about 12 to 17 lessons. Intermediate Accounting 1 and 2 were difficult, but not overly so. I usually spent about four hours per lesson. The tests consist of a section of multiple choice and then a couple of problems which covered the material well.
Income tax was similar to the Intermediate Accounting courses in amount of lesson assignments. However, the exams are open book for Income tax. Trust me, you'll be glad they are.
Cost Management was probably the easiest course I've taken at LSU. The lesson assignments were far easier and shorter than the other courses I've discussed. The exams were also shorter with 40 multiple choice questions and a single problem.
Auditing, which I am currently in, is also not difficult. Lessons are short and it takes longer to read the chapter than it does to complete the problems.
If you have more specific questions, send me a PM.
Good luck,

I take classes for upper level accounting through LSU online and I love it. There aren't specific deadlines so you have to stay focused. It can be a little lonely but it is great for someone who has a background in accounting.
