Yes, they were running out of licenses for current students, so they forced alumni with existing accounts to opt in so they could reclaim the licenses. At least your current student account should still work until your last term ends, and then you can try to sign up for an alumni account or ask for one if necessary, even if the answer is no.

Also, I don't know how active the education channels are, but you should join the discord: https://discord.gg/unwgu

Thanks for the Discord link! Any idea where I'd find Udemy and edX as a current student?

To my knowledge there is no edX for WGU students, but LI Learning, Pluralsight, etc., should use the same links for current students as for alumni.

Udemy access is through different portals. For current students it's
https://wgu.udemy.com/organization/home/
and for alumni it's
https://wgualumni.udemy.com/organization/home/

If you do get access to the alumni version (or Udemy Business through an employer), all your previous enrollments and course progress will be lost, so you'll want to make a note of anything that's in progress in the student portal before you lose access.

Thank you! Good to know about moving to the alumni version. Bummer about edX.
