What are the degree of difficulty for exams?
#1
Hello,

With all the exams out there, CELP, DSST, ECE, TECEP, Uxcel, Straighterline, Which ones are easiest and which ones are hardest? How difficult are the ECE, TECEP and Uxcel exams?

I have not taken any exams except for a CLEP back in 1994 and cannot remember if it was hard or not. Don't even remember getting back a score to be honest. Took it out at sea and when I got back to port m enlistment was ending.

Anyways, for those who have experience with these mulitple options, how do you feel each one ranks in terms of difficulty. From what I have gathered, form hardest to easiest (in relative terms)

1. ECE
2. Uexcel
3. TECEP
4. DSST
5. CLEP
6. Straighterline

I am probably off base with that assesment and my thinking is that DSST and CLEPs are equally as difficult. I am assuming that all these are still mulitple choice? Except for the english comp ones.

Thank you

From your list, I've taken TECEP, DSST, CLEP, and SL (but SL isn't an exam, it's a class so I won't rank it) but I'll add in FEMA which you didn't list.
Also, for what it's worth, your 1994 CLEP is still good until 2014, so if you passed, you DO HAVE CREDIT. They hold it for 20 years.

Easiest: FEMA
Middle: CLEP/DSST tied for difficulty, more depends on the subject imo
Hard: TECEP (I rank this as hard because it involved a text-specific study plan as opposed to general study info)

My thoughts exactly. Throw ECE's in there with TECEPs as harder as well.

free-clep-prep.com has a lot of good summaries and details about each exam and their relative difficulty. However, keep in mind this is extremely subjective, and based on your personal skills. Some people think finance is a walk in the park while marketing is tough, two exams that, according to popular opinion, are the other way around.

Also, let's be honest, FEMA are basically free credits. They require zero study, they're just a reward for being a good citizen, there is zero challenge to them.

Thanks.

I know Straighterline is not really an exam. Just wondered if they were more difficult than Cleps.

Are most exams multiple choice? Are ECEs and TECEPS that much different from CLEPs?

Straighterline is easy, just more time consuming. If you can put in the time, and put some effort in, you'll pass. CLEP's much less certain.
