What does a college diploma from COSC look like?
#1
Concentrations (Majors) and CPS Forms at Charter Oak State College

Charter Oak State College sounds like a wonderful way for me to finish my degree quickly. I'll be honest...I don't even care what type of degree I complete. I would prefer for it not to be Liberal Studies. I wanted to go for something general like Business, if possible, as I apply to mainly secretary jobs, etc. and nowadays it makes you more competitive if you have a Bachelors. Employers don't particularly care what your Bachelors is in, for the positions I apply to, they just want to know/see that you have completed a Bachelors. I'm supposing this is to weed a certain class of people out. Not sure. However, the Bachelors has become the new high school diploma in my opinion. You better have one if you want to get your foot in the door to interview with more places

For all of you who have graduated from COSC, TESC or Excelsior, what does your college diploma look like? I'm esp. interested in COSC. The link above shows a page that describes their Bachelors and how one chooses a concentration, which is supposedly not a major...so then, how would your college diploma read? Ex: (Your name) is awarded a Bachelors of Science in (General Studies or __________?). Does the college diploma read as you having just a degree in General Studies or does it differ from what concentration you chose? I emailed COSC and have yet to receive a reply.

Here's another concern of mine. I have 32 community college credits (mainly pre-reqs/liberal arts courses..little bit of everything) and then I went to a college that was sort of like a tech school and finished a Licensed Practical Nurse program. The college is accredited and said that their credits are considered college credits that will transfer. I'm not sure, but I have tons of nursing classes and I'm wondering if they would be completely worthless towards applying to any type of degree (other than nursing) at one of these colleges...? I'm not interested in doing anything that has to do with Nursing. This field is a dead field to me and I'm glad to be getting back into Business. I loved my clinical rotations and nursing is ONE of my passions, but with the rate of joblessness and high abuse and workplace violence, I know that I don't want to stick around in that field. I have too much self respect and I find that I am happier working office jobs. I'm simply looking to complete my Bachelors in order to be able to apply to more jobs.

Don't have one yet...but a degree from COSC will simply read "Batchelor of Science" or "Batchelor of Arts". They don't award degree's in particular fields hence the nomenclature of "concentration". This isn't all that unusual. I have seen several degree's from larger better known schools that read the same way....and you have to just ask the holder what they studied.

It's quite likely that all of the Big3 (COSC, TESC, and EC) will award at least some credit for your LPN. For example my Paramedic training counted for something like 30 hours total towards my degree and about 12 of those to my specific concentrations of Organizational Leadership/Healthcare (two concentrations there).

I believe the initial application is $75 and they will look at all your transcripts and give you an idea of which concentrations make the best use of your existing credits.....but your wise to review things ahead of that and ask that they be reviewed towards a concentration that makes at least some sense.

Good Luck!

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Here is a recent thread from someone who received his TESC diploma in the mail. Click on the link below to read his post, and click on the file attachment within his post to see a copy of his diploma. It is a nice-looking diploma.

By the way, I do not blame you for wanting to stay away from nursing. I was an LVN for four years, earned my RN license last year, and the manner in which many nurses treat each other is a crying shame. The field is full of lateral violence.
• Master of Science in Nursing - Eastern New Mexico University (in progress)
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing - Western Governors University (3/2015)
• Associate of Science in Nursing - Platt College (3/2010)
• Diploma of Vocational Nursing - Casa Loma College (10/2005)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Professional licensure: LPN/LVN (1/2006); RN (5/2010)
• 16 brick & mortar credits from Oxnard College (2000 to 2001)
• 38 brick & mortar credits from Tarrant County College (2006 to 2008)

Thanks Rebel and Commuter~! So I guess there's no way to include the concentration on the degree huh? Not the worst case scenario as I plan on going for my Masters. I'm thinking a Bachelors of Science will make me more competitive. I appreciate all the help..are all of the big 3's like this? I believe Excelsior actually lists a major.

My Charter Oak diploma reads "Bachelor of Arts" only , transcript has a section bottom of second page - Degree information: 'Bachelor of Arts' Date Conferred : and then lists Concentration(s) in my case History.

Sorry to sound silly, but where is a Case History listed? On the actual diploma?

Not sure what you mean, I may have confused you. My concentration at Charter Oak was 'History'. Diploma only shows 'Bachelor of Arts'.

My student transcript has a section listing Degree Information: where it lists Degree type, Date conferred and Concentration(s). Under Concentration(s) it lists 'History' as my concentration. Hope that helps.

Ok no problem. Thanks. Did you guys find it easy to enter graduate school or where there any bumps in the road as far as that went? I would like to earn my Masters in Business Admin., Finance, Occupational Therapy, Math, or something of the "likes" Smile.

I attend Andrew Jackson Univ. online and had no problems being accepted as they are pretty flexible though they are Nationally Accredited. In my case this doesn't matter.

Below is a link from Charter Oak that lists grad schools attended by Charter Oak graduates.

EC now lists the major, don't think they used to. My TESC dimploma only lists "bachelor of science in business administration", doesn't say anything about the concentration (CIS). Could someone post a scanned copy of their COSC diploma, blacking out the personal info? Just curious to see one, and can't find one through a search of the web.
I m edumakated thanx to distunce lerning.
