Which college name sounds best?
#11
depends

I like
Texas Military University

but I bet there are many HR people who would balk at hiring anybody from a school with "military" in the name

Texas Institute of Technology
also sounds good
especially if I was hiring for a computer or electronics position

Lonestar State University
is lame
like Excelsior lame

University of Central Texas
sounds like a school that focus on football and nobody there knows anything

Central Texas University
sounds ok

I think the only "issue" with Texas Institute of Technology is its abbreviation, "TIT." Would probably get some laughs though.

LOL, I was thinking along the same lines... whenever I read the word "Central" I keep thinking of "Booneville or Springfield", some place in the boonies that is far away and not well known. If I had a choice, I would use Texas Institute of Technology as a subsidiary of Texas State International Universiy, *insert evil laugh here*! Hmm, that just gave me an idea! I'm also interested in starting a university some day soon. That day may be closer than expected, I'll create that institution at the same time I work on my DBA!

Texas Institute of Technology (TIT) reminds me of poorly thought out Universal Technical Institute (UTI) in terms of abbreviations. Big Grin

I have a bias against having "international" in the name. A lot of unranked, for-profit, and unaccredited schools like to use "international" or "intercontinental." Central Texas has the capital and a major metropolitan area.

Reading through some of the popular Institute of Technology schools, all are universities that I have always really respected:

CalTech
GeorgiaTech
MIT

However, the way others process in my mind in long form still feel more of a trade school than a full fledged university. Again, this is just how hearing and seeing the full name processes for me but obviously, there are plenty of winners bearing the words Institute of Technology.

Texas Technical University is already taken. If I were to start a school, I would target the degree programs that are hard to find online, and most of those are STEM.

Sounds like my approach to cooking - add hot sauce and it's a little bit better!

Not sure Lone Star + Technical University is enough hot sauce to make this work. Perhaps, if you sprinkle a little University and a dash of College to balance the heat, we'll have a winner!

University of Maryland University College - If we can get a super creative mascot, it will all come together.
