Its perplexing to me that I don't see more people taking advantage of the Great Courses series of lectures. They're super expensive but only if you purchase them straight. You can get them for the price of one Audible Credit or often for free at the local library. So far its helped me immensely on the Civil War and Soviet History DSSTs as well as somewhat on the Cybersecurity one. Also I am planning on taking the 2 American History CLEPS soon and so I'm going through those lectures.
The main thing about them is that you can listen to them so its great for mutli-tasking or when doing something boring.

I think you answered your own question: because they're hard to find for cheap/free. AND, because most people on here are looking to save time as well as money, and most of these are pretty long. They are meant to be, and I'm sure they're wonderful, but they aren't really meant to be a helpful shortcut for people.

Annenberg has some good series, and they're free.
If you want to spend about $180 for the year or $20 per month, you can stream an unlimited number of Great Courses.

Ah but you can get them for the cost of 1 Audible credit(about $15) which is a pretty huge discount on the list price. But yeah you're right about the time, though I tend to listen while doing other things.

Since I don't have Audible (or Audible credits), it wouldn't be of benefit to me. I'm sure others are in the same boat.

I'm so glad you mentioned these. We LOVE The Great Courses PLUS. But let me let you in on a tip. For $20/month you can get access to most of them, digitally. Most include a downloadable course PDF. Sometimes the PDF have study questions. And if $20/month is too steep, you can get them thru Amazon.com at um, I think it's $7.99/month... it includes many of them, but not all.

We love Audible too. It's 15/month but the credits can accumulate (up to 6.) You can also purchase credits in bulk, 3 for $33, I think. I am not completely sure if you can maintain an account without the $15/month charge, and just buy credits as needed. In any case, the Audible books are nice for current or mainstream books on audio. I was going to use them for TGC until I found TGCP.

If you have a library card see if your library participates in http://www.hoopladigital.com they have some of the courses that you were discussing and it is free. I use to be an Audible member but I can get just about anything I want on Audible on Hoopla for free.
On another note, I check out the ebook of the Clep Prep books for each exam that I am taking. They have a code in the book and all of the online practice exams and prep are typically $1.99.

Cool! I have been able to get access with my library card to overdrive. Thanks for the headsup about Hoopla. I'll try that. Also, my public library gives free access to Lynda.com
