Written English Q
#1
Just got my EC preliminary evaluation done based on both US and foreign credentials, and one thing that I didn't expect in terms of "credits needed" was "Written English" - 3 credits.

How have people handled this in the past? My thoughts are:
1. Contest it with experience.
2. Since I already have English Composition I passed/applied for 2 credits, do I just need the 2nd part of it?

EC won't let you substitute experience for credit, unless you're planning to do a PLA for credit. You're going to have to do some sort of course, exam, or PLA for this credit.

Written English (or "composition" or other similar courses) are standard general eds for all of the Big 3 and almost any US school.

I took ENG160 (English Composition I) at a US university, and EC properly transferred/applied it for 3 credits. Does that mean I need an equivalent of English Composition II for 3 more credits? Is the corresponding CLEP test College Composition?

Correct, it's six total credits of English/Composition.

I'm not the expert in Excelsior transfer equivalencies, but  there are many many cheap exam/ACE/NCCRS options available for this, including CLEP I believe. I never went the CLEP route (before the free Modern States offer they were just as or more expensive than the alternatives, and less convenient since you had to go to a testing center), so I can't direct you to the specific one, but I'm sure the experts here will clarify for you.

EC won't take CLEP or DSST exams for English Comp, so you should do a course - Sophia, Study.com, SL, etc.

Thanks.

I only need 1/2 of it, as I already have 3 credits from English Composition I.

Do you know what I have to take at study.com if I only need English Composition II?

No - you just take English Comp II through one of these providers.

Thanks. Would this be the correct Study.com course for English Comp II? https://study.com/academy/course/english...on-ii.html
