Wow, I'm a long-timer now

I have been posting much less because I've started my grad studies. I still try to chime in when I think it's helpful, but I don't read every new post immediately like I used to

Aside from starting at Georgia tech, I'm also in a job role that has more responsibilities now and much less free time to browse the internet -- which is mostly a good thing

I also agree with what dfrecore said -- We've been answering the same questions asked in different ways for a while now. That's to be expected, new members pop up all the time and we can't expect them to read everything on the forum before asking a question. But I answer those questions less so than I used to, but thankfully there are other newer folks (and some patienter long time folks) that are still there to help out.

I try to stay out of the political talks for the most part, but I definitely get sucked in from time to time. It's a very fruitless endeavor on this form, and I'm happy that I've apparently been missing these posts lately.

Those political posts are fruitless.  From my perspective, it seemed like that was what was driving away the folks with the knowledge-base.  I wish folks on this forum would not bring politics to the table as there are an endless number of venues to express any viewpoint.  No matter which side we stand on, we all have something to contribute to a better educational experience.  Isn't that the reason we're all here?

I'm pretty lost at this point - no idea what you're talking about.  The reason some people leave is because they've gotten their degrees, have other stuff going on, etc.  I'm almost positive they're not "driven away" by any particular posts.  They might be driven away by someone complaining about the forum though!  The political stuff is almost entirely relegated to the Off Topic Area, which you could simply avoid by not going to that section.  I only go there when I'm feeling a little feisty!

@dfrecore,  I don't think anyone in this thread has complained about anyone or anything.  I thought we were having a respectful discussion.   It does seem to have gone in the woods so it's a good time to end it.

I agree, most folks only stick around until they graduate and then move on.

They might be driven away by someone complaining about the forum though!  The political stuff is almost entirely relegated to the Off Topic Area, which you could simply avoid by not going to that section.  I only go there when I'm feeling a little feisty!

I also try to be pretty diligent about moving political posts out of the education topics and keeping them in the off topic area to avoid concerns like this.

I was simply asking for a few people to have a bit more caution and civility when they post.  That request doesn't apply to many members but it seems it still invoked anger in a few members and that was not my intention.

This thread is fine. If these things were being thought, then I'm glad they were aired.

P.S. There's also another reason it might seem as if individual people are posting less. I think there's been a definite slow rise in the number of threads and the number of subjects. I know that I don't read everything the way I used to.

Study.com offers almost everything you need for the most popular programs. Telling people to go to Study.com gets boring after the 100th time. I rarely comment in the ACE/NCCRS sub-forum. Plus, there are canned degree plans floating around, so there's not as much of a need to ask questions. 

Right now, I find the graduate school sub-forum to be the most interesting because people have more unique situations there, and you have to dig for the right graduate programs. When I have the free time, I like to search for new and previously unknown ways of earning graduate and undergraduate credit cheaply, especially for things that aren't generic i.e. business administration. 

Another lady and I used to do a lot of degree planning before Dfrecore joined and became active. I don't have time to do that anymore, and my buddy is, unfortunately, limited by a disability. So, I leave it to others to degree plan since there are more people willing to do it. I prefer sharing things that are new and interesting such as when I found TEEX, CSU Global CBEs, Westcott, free term at Walden, free tuition at Edmonds Community College, etc.

Yes, after a while, you see that people start to specialize in things.  I can totally tell that you like to do research on new programs/courses that come in.  I prefer to do degree plans, and how courses will fit into those.  Cookderosa specializes in homeschooling and getting grades for SL/Study.com at COSC..  Others have their own specialties.

It also depends on which school is most popular at the time.  When I first started, EC was more popular; they've made some changes, their prices have gone up, and they're kind of out of favor here (although they are a better option in certain situations).  TESU has been popular for a long time; but I think COSC will take over as TESU's prices go up, including the new cornerstone requirement.  WGU has taken over in a lot of areas, especially IT, for good reason.  We all aren't up on how the different schools accept credit, so that fluctuates over time.

I love how this forum changes as the education landscape changes.  And I'm always glad to see some people's responses, because they always impart such great wisdom in their areas of specialization.

I don't post as often as I would like because I'm not actively studying right now. I really want to, but I need to brush up on my Portuguese for work, which isn't really something I would discuss.

But I keep coming back because this is a smart group full of good people and even though it's been many years now, I thank this forum for me getting my BS and being inspired to move on to the MBA. I do want to come and help but try to stick to this area since my outdated testing skills are all but worthless anymore.
