CCAF Grad in a pickle. TESC or UMUC? |

I am new to posting on this forum and I have been deliberating over what school to go to. I have a CCAF in Pharmacy Technology, I am still Active Duty with 8 years to go until I am retirement eligible, and I am looking into a Bachelor's Degree in Communications or Legal Studies at UMUC or BA in Liberal Studies at TESC. I was once set on TESC because I also have taken FEMA courses but then I read about their lack of good customer service and then I saw something about annual fees and that I have to take 18 credits in a year to avoid fees. But I have 100% TA because I am active duty so is this above the TA? I am looking at UMUC because they seem military friendly but I am afraid that not a lot of my CCAF credits will transfer into something through them.
There were some BS programs I was looking into at TESC and UMUC but I am avoiding anything that requires Statistics because I had a hard time with College Algebra three years ago.

Can I get some help with a DSST issue? |

Hello! I need some help!
Last year at this time I joined this board and did some research on CLEP and DSST testing. I could have sworn my 3 local colleges/university administered both tests. I called yesterday to schedule my first CLEP and asked about the DSST, they said no. I did a search online and no one in my area administers the DSST test.
SO...I need alternatives for Money & Banking, Principles of Finance, and Business in Society (in blue). I am open to suggestions for other sources for these OR for alternate courses to fit the slots for my BSBA in General Management.

I took 4 DSSTs on scantron and they were sent to Prometric last Tuesday. I noticed yesterday that they finally charged my bank account. Does this mean my tests have all been graded? I tried calling but the rep wasn't helpful (she was actually a little rude). All I want to know is if there's a chance the tests have been graded since they finally took the money out. Anyone know?

AMU/APU PLAs -- cheaper and faster |

Poking around the AMU/APU website and found out they have a PLA "Life Experience" program (I hate that term, oh well). The program sounds functionally similar to TESC but is only 4-6 weeks at a cost of $250.
Prior Learning Assessment Home
PLAs are not my thing, but I think this school needs to be researched a bit more.
Ninja Edit
They also accept DHS certificate courses that awarded CEUs using the formula CEU/1.5 = SH, e.g. a 3 CEU course from the list would be a 2 SH course credit. If applied towards one of the DHS-type degree programs (emergency management, criminal justice, homeland security, or public health) then a cert granting more than 4.5 CEUs can apply towards the major.
DOCNET (Joint Doctrine) courses apply to any degree with the same formula. Others are probably similar. The list does not include FEMAs but I think this could be an argument for them to accept FEMAs the same way.
For us AF types they also accept SkillSoft and AFIADL courses, though no link so no details on limitations.
DHS certs: http://www.apus.edu/TransferCredit/accep...curity.htm
Full list of accepted credit sources: http://www.apus.edu/TransferCredit/accep...licies.htm
Still don't see anything that says 90 credits transferred in, that's what I'm looking for.
Super-Ninja Edit
Found it. 45 credits transfer for associates and 90 for bachelors. http://www.apus.edu/TransferCredit/credi...aduate.htm

I meant to take this several months ago, but kept postponing because I never felt ready, so I spent about two weeks really tackling the material. Here is what helped me:
I read chapters 1 through 9, 13 through 16, 18, 19, 22 through 24, and 28 in the Barron's book, followed by all eight chapters in the REA book. I then read that study guide and took two Peterson's test and both REA tests. Out of 100 questions, I only got around 45 correct on the Peterson's test and the first REA test. On the second REA test, I got around 60 correct. The actual test was much easier.
InstantCert does not work for me. I just cannot get myself to work through hundreds of flash cards. I am in the minority, though. If you have never tried InstantCert, at least give it a try. Whatever you do, know contract and tort law. You have to know what happens if X breaches a contract with Y and A, B, and C happened or if X can sue Y because Y rear-ended X and A, B, and C happened. Other than that, most of the test was about knowing the terminology. Assignment, delegation, assault vs. battery, stare decisis, intermediate vs. strict scrutiny, things like that. And be sure to have a look Free CLEP Prep.

I have been studying with IC for the past two weeks on Statistics but cannot answer most of the questions I see or Pearsons on the subject. I am worried I will fail if I proceed to take the exam. Has anyone taken and passed the DSST for Statistics? Was IC enough? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

College Composition CLEP essay help |

I found this forum and was amazed at the huge amount of information available here. So, first of all, I want to say thank you to everyone for freely sharing their knowledge; it really helps a lot of people.
Now, I am studying for the CC CLEP and am hoping to find some information regarding the essays. I am hoping to take the test in the beginning of February, but the essay section is proving to be very difficult for me. My biggest problem is gathering enough material and writing a long enough essay within the time constraints. So my question for anyone who has taken this test is: how long of an essay do you need to pass? Have you passed without completely finishing your essays? What would you have scored (from 1-6) the essays you wrote for the real test?
So far I have been studying with the CLEP Official study guide, Peterson's CLEP book, reading online writing help websites (Purdue, Sparknotes fast food essay, various sites explaining the 5X5 essay etc.) and Lucile Vaughan Payne's book The Lively Art of Writing. Are there any other study aids that I should really include?
To get an idea of where I am, I took my first Petersons test via my library's testing and education center, and I scored 82% on the multiple choice section. How accurately does Peterson's test represent the real test? If I am scoring a 3 on one essay, and I don't quite finish the other (maybe a score of 2.5?), what do I need to score on the multiple choice section to pass?
Thanks for all your helpful insights,
Joel
