Second Degree :AAS in Environmental Safety ans Security Technology Question
Posted by: emichele20 - 11-21-2011, 02:30 PM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (7)

Hello Everyone,

I am thinking about getting a second associates in ESS at TESC and I have a few questions. I received my ASBA from TESC on 9/2011. I am currently completing the requirements for the BSBA and will be finished on 2/2012. I have completed 9 new credits from PF, 6 new credits from TESC from term 9/2011, and will complete another 6 credits in 12/2011. I want to know if the credits that I have earned which are definitely more than 12 can be applied to the Free Elective Area in the AAS in ESS degree at TESC? If so would that make me eligible for this degree as it is in a different area and I would have met the 12 credit requirement for 2nd associate degree. I would really like to get this degree so that I will show that I actually used my FEMA credits towards something and I did not just use them for freebies. It would allow my transcript and my resume to be more complete. If I can get this second associates degree my plan is to graduate with it and my BSBA together.

Any info on how this process works would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

  Well Said, Bernie Sanders!
Posted by: alleycat - 11-21-2011, 12:19 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (29)

“The issue is this country does, in fact, have a serious deficit problem, but the reality is the deficit was caused by two wars—unpaid for; it was caused by huge tax breaks for the wealthiest people in this country; it was caused by a recession that was the result of the greed, recklessness and illegal behavior on Wall Street,” said Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who was joined by fellow Sens. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) and Ben Cardin (D-Md.) and Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.). “And if those are the causes of the deficit and the national debt, I will be damned if we’re going to balance the budget on the backs of the elderly, the sick, the children and the poor.”

I must say that Sen Bernie Sanders is a real stand up guy. But that is how many people are that hail VT. Thank you Bernie for thinking of the average person.

I'm interested in obtaining an accounting degree from TE. I live in GA and I was wondering if I wanted to become a CPA, if the accounting courses from straighterline would count or not? Does anybody know if the GA CPA requirements would accept accounting credits from Straighterline?

  Questions from the new guy!
Posted by: DRS71188 - 11-19-2011, 09:46 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (11)

Hello all,

As a new member of the community I am trying to learn as much as I can about all of these new discoveries, such as Aleks, SL, PnF, CLEP, UEXCEL, DSST & etc. Also I am very curious if it is controllable to take full time college courses while doing SL courses, or is it to much? I wanted to get started ASAP, but I wanted to try after I finish my ALEKS math courses to double up TESC 12 credits while doing SL courses during the semesters. Another Question I have: Which of the big 3 school is the fastest for completion? I would think TESC is, but then again I am assuming. TESC says there courses are 12 weeks, so can I take 4 semester per year? So much curiosity due to educational enlightenment of all these new features. Please help me out, I am trying to research as much as possible before diving in, and I keep using the search function but cannot find some of the most basic information.

Questions:

1. Length of ALEKS (Intro Algebra - Business Stats)
And I know you can skip any further studying by passing the exam the first time, but I am talking about if you have to actually go threw and learn it.

2. How long does a SL course take from start to finish.

3. Going full time while doing SL course to much?

4. Quickest big 3 school to complete?

I will continue to post questions as I think of them, that is all I have for now!

Thanks everyone,

  Excelsior Capstone
Posted by: dewisant - 11-18-2011, 10:40 AM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (9)

First off, I'm sorry if this is redundant. Please direct me if it is. I have asked EC about Capstone, about which EC is apparently very proud. All I seem to get is rhetoric about how wonderful the Capstone experience is, how much I will enjoy the course, and how it tends to crown the degree and give the degree closure. Dig a hole. I have asked questions that include: Are there any alternatives to the Capstone such as a large researched paper on an assigned subject, or what's the nature of the Capstone...technicaly what do I have to have to participate in this learning opportunity? The bottom line is that I am on dial-up with no end in sight in this regard and all I get from EC is that I have to do the Capstone and that I will like it immensely. Any thoughts?
