Free Calculus Video Lessons from MIT!
Posted by: OE800_85 - 07-19-2011, 09:09 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (7)

Hey, I'm not sure how many people know about these...but MIT has a new open courseware platform and it's full of great stuff. I just discovered an excellent video series on their website that's completely free to stream and watch, with a accompanying text, narrated by an MIT professor. Gotta love the internet, eh? Anyways, here's the link, I think it's great for people who are considering a few Calc exams or further study, or people who have done it a while back and forgotten (like me). It's also available as a podcast.

Active Duty Montgomery GI bill Questions
Posted by: CagedFatKid - 07-18-2011, 11:52 PM - Forum: Military Discussion - Replies (8)

I have applied for my Montgomery GI Bill and I got the paperwork in the mail confirming my direct deposit account, and my approval. It says that I get 36 months of deposits and that the deposits will go into my account but there is nothing else. When will I start receiveing these deposits? Does anyone know? Also I am currently deployed so I wont be taking another class till Novemeber, where I will be taking 3 classes. With 3 classes, all online, I will get 1,000 a month roughly from the gi bill. I was wondering how that would work currently. Would I still get paid that amount cause Ive already taken 6 classes for this year.

Thank you for your help.

  COSC- 100 credit limit?
Posted by: okiemom - 07-18-2011, 07:48 PM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (2)

During high school, my youngest son was unsure of whether he wanted to go with a Political Science or an English degree. He was still hesitant during his first semester of college. Because of this, he tested out of several subjects in both areas, hoping it would help make a decision. Now, if he finishes at the school he is currently in, he will have close to 160 hours credit when he graduates. So, we decided to have evaluations done to the Big 3. Since we had a few questions about the COSC evaulation, he shot off an email to them. This was part of their reply.

"Regarding the recent courses you took at SNU, Charter Oak only accepts 100 degree-applicable credits towards a Bachelor’s degree".

Say what? I thought there were only two required two courses at Charter Oak. Is this new or has it always been that way?

  Penn Foster UL Business courses
Posted by: durandtheman - 07-18-2011, 03:23 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

Does anyone have a better list of UL Business courses offered by Penn Foster. I remember a thread previously, but have been searching my a$$ for and haven't found it again..

I have checked through every course on the ACE site and asked an ECE advisor, and the only courses I have found are these 3.

Cost Accounting (ACE as a LL, confirmed from ECE that it will be taken as UL)
Strategic Resource Management
Corporate Finance = Principles of Finance DSST (can possibly take both?)

Any others would be great. Thanks in advance!!

Is anyone familiar with COMPASS e-Write?
Posted by: lina - 07-18-2011, 11:40 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - No Replies

How hard they grade on the essays? My English Composition with essays-the essays will be graded by COMPASS e-Write, and I don't have sample essays which makes me more nervous. I schedule to take the test on Aug 19th. I am not worried about the multiple choices, since I did pretty good on the REA practices tests. The only thing scares me off is that I have to write two essays, each essays weight 8 points and I have to get at least 14 points to earn 6 credits or 13 points to earn 3 credit. Do you guys think that if now I start to write essay everyday that will help me get through the test? To be honest, I will be happy even if I only get 3 credit out of the test. I really need to put my words into actions now.

  Straighterline English Comp 2 advice
Posted by: pitbull30 - 07-18-2011, 11:10 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

I just signed up for straighterline english comp 2. Ive actually read the book before which is frankenstein. I was reading a post that said "do not submit drafts for english because it takes awhile for them to turn them around or grade them"

Does anyone have any info on this? English is one if my stronger subjects so i plan to knock this out ASAP (before the renewal of course). Any other advice on English comp 2? This is my first SL course.

Thanks
