Osama Bin Laden's wives are highly educated and some are descended from the profit
Posted by: ryoder - 05-14-2011, 06:10 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (7)

These wives are pretty highly placed in the arab world. Some have PhDs and some are direct descendants of the prophet.

I am noticing that people can be extremists and terrorists despite being highly educated and wealthy.

The Secrets of the three widows of Bin Laden - The medical and societal journal of a vitreo-retinal surgeon. | Eye Dr DeLengocky

Khadijah Sharif - Osama's second wife
Nine years his senior, she married Osama in 1983 and the pair had three children together. She was highly educated and said to be a direct descendant of the Prophet Mohammed. Also called Umm Hamza meaning "mother of Hamza", a well-educated Saudi woman with a Ph.D. in Islamic law who became Bin Laden’s second wife, was seven years older than her husband, and the oldest of the five women he married.

Umm Khaled is also a Saudi woman with a doctorate, in Arabic grammar.

  Taking my first CLEP tomorrow
Posted by: durandtheman - 05-13-2011, 11:40 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

Hi Everybody,

I just wanted to say thanks for the wonderful breadth of information given here and all the experiences by the users of each test.

Tomorrow I'm taking my first CLEP test - Principles of Marketing and I am extremely confident of the score I can achieve. Thanks to IC and the various other testing websites out there.

I'm not going anywhere for a while since I am just starting on test 1 of my 5 necessary tests to achieve my AS - Business from Excelsior, but just wanted to check in and tell everybody what a great help this forum has been as I continue my journey to getting my Bachelors degree.

You guys are the BEST!

Have you taken TESC English 102?
Posted by: dcan - 05-13-2011, 11:22 PM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (5)

Has anyone actually taken the TESC English 102 course? I usually see advice to take the Tech Writing DSST in its place. If you have taken it, what is it really like?

I'm starting out, but interested in moving on to a master's degree, which requires a lot of writing. I've never written a term paper, never written a formal essay or research paper. I will have to take at least six TESC courses, which I hear are heavy on writing.

BUT...

I think I'm a "decent" writer. I can learn MLA formatting no problem. I recently wrote a 26-page project justification and requirements document at work to try to convince leadership to merge two computer systems. I know that's not a "research" essay, but point is I can write a long document.

Is this a course worth taking? My gut says "suck it up now for long-term gain", but it also revolts at 12 weeks of "revise this paragraph" and the like.

Thanks!

  Psych question
Posted by: STG - 05-13-2011, 06:02 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (9)

Many people view psychotherapy as a form of control. Should therapy be a form of social control where professionals help others to conform/cope with society, or a means to encourage individual expression even if not socially acceptable? We had a whole discussion about this in my abnormal psych class...lets hear some opinions Wink

  TESC BA English
Posted by: getedu - 05-13-2011, 05:38 PM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (2)

Anyone know where I can get upper level English credits cheap? I guess I need 18 of them for this degree, right?

If anyone knows of a cheaper BA English degree than TESC plz let me know. I have general ed credits done I can transfer.

I'm also curious if anyone has got a second degree from TESC? If I got another degree first, like maybe one in business administration could I use some of those credits to get the BA in English? I read in the catalog you have to do 30 new credits but I didn't really understand the part that said this:

course work used to fulfill requirements for a previous associate degree major or any other undergraduate, advanced or professional degree may not be used to fulfill requirement for a second associate degree option or a second bachelor's degree area of study.

Does that mean just area of concentration credits or all credits even general ed?

I read an article in USA Today. Apparently
some online schools are toolijng up to make
online coiurses available on smart phones. This
Includes lectures. WGU offers a flat tuition
Per semester regardless of ho many credits
You work toward. Perhaps the big 3 are getting
competion.

  Meningitis shot...
Posted by: STG - 05-13-2011, 02:37 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (16)

I thought I had all my shots taken care of...but today someone from my grad school told me I didn't get my meningitis shot. So I called my doctor and scheduled an appointment for Tuesday at 2:30. I'm really scared and I hate shots... how long does it hurt for? I remember I took a shot when I was 12 (I don't remember which shot) but it hurt for like a week after and I couldn't move my arm. I hope this one won't be so bad. My doctor also told me I was missing a booster shot but I told her I'll take it another time.

  Graduation
Posted by: uimara050711 - 05-13-2011, 11:03 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (10)

On May 7 2011 I walked across the stage and graduated from Old Dominion Universtiy with my bachelor's degree! and today will graduate from Tidewater Community College with my associate's degree!

I just wanted to say thank you to EVERYONE here for the great support and excellent study tips!! It meant a lot to really get active on the discussion board because I have been attempting to CLEP since my freshman year in college 4 years ago, but JUST did within the last 3 months. (that's why im graduating with my associates and bachelor at the same time). Without the information on how to study and what to study for it would not have happened!

I passed BIOLOGY on 03.30.2011
I failed HUMMANITIES on 04.27.2011 Sad
i passed AMERICAN LITERATURE on 05.12.2011

Anything that I can do to help pass the information along I will!!
I have the official study guides from Biology and American Literature
and before this I even thought about doing CHEMISTRY (:/ i have that study guide and something i purchased from 'pass your class' a complete guide on chemistry )!!

i cant updload because they are all too big, but if u message me i will happily email them to you!!

  DSST Intro Business
Posted by: Ubuntu_user - 05-13-2011, 09:52 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

So, how hard is the DSST Introduction to Business test? I'm thinking of taking it next Tuesday, but I haven't studied in the least. I checked Petersons but they don't have any practice tests. Are there any resources that would be helpful in preparing me for this one?
I'm really not sweating it because it seems like it will be easy, but I don't want to flunk it.
