Challenge: Cheapest Big 3 Associate's Degree?
Posted by: dcan - 05-03-2011, 09:07 PM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (4)

I really love the idea of picking up an extra associate's degree on my way up the ladder. I am about to complete an AAS degree in computer programming, and I'm setting out on a TESC BSBA CIS track. But I love the idea of picking up an extra associate's on the way, which should be easy given the BSBA requirements I need to fill anyway.

What is the absolute cheapest way to pick up an associate's degree from the Big 3 with that kind of credit spread? I figure business administration is probably the best route, though management may be in as well. Personally I salivate over getting one in political science, but that isn't economically viable right now.

I am military, so cheaper costs, but they would all be out of pocket expenses. Tuition Assistance won't pay for a sideways-or-down degree, and since I'm finishing an associate's they will only pay towards a bachelor's degree.

It's not always clear what the true costs are from the tuition schedules, given the sometimes mandatory intro course, capstone course, etc. So I'm turning to the true experts for help. Big Grin

Thanks! :patriot:

  Western Civ II
Posted by: amnturner - 05-03-2011, 08:50 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

Scored a 59 on Western Civ II today! I was hoping for a better score, but the test was quite challenging and I probably didn't study as much as I should have. I downloaded a Western Civ II podcast and studied the flashcards along with taking some of the Peterson's tests.

  Intro to Bussiness DSST DIfficulty.
Posted by: jm82792 - 05-03-2011, 08:26 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (6)

I've recently flunked CLEP Financial Accounting,
I was close but it got me, and it's costly with airline ticket + taxi + testing fees(plus nagging parents :willynilly: ).
So I've been studying a lot for my upcoming tests, Western Civ 2(I'm hoping to pass, as I'm scoring 85% on Peterson's and REA's practice tests, slightly less on IC) and Intro to Business.
With Western Civ I have study material that works(according to Amazon and a friend who used the book), however not with the other test.

Since I failed that one last CLEP (I studied a long time for it, time for Straighter line I guess) I've felt kicked down..
I've taken(scored 55 plus on them, some were almost 70) Macro Economics, Micro Economics, Marketing, Management, and I think one other CLEP business test.
I've scored around 77% with all three Peterson's tests for Intro To Business.
I did initially score 60% but I did some googling on the stuff I got wrong,
and retook the tests.

So what do you think I'm ready?
Is there any online material I can use that's rather concentrated? I have Understanding Business, it's one of the books recommended by the College Board.
It's 400 pages, I know mostly what that book has to offer(up to page 300, I got sick of it), and seems rather elementary.

I've spent a decent amount of time reading about the test(commonsense, a mile wide, nothing deep, etc) but there was a revision, and that worries me slightly...

  EC Microbiology :) DONE!
Posted by: kester22 - 05-03-2011, 04:19 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (10)

Well I took EC Microbiology today -------Passed with a B! I was all teeth walking out of the Pearsonvue Prison today. It was 130 questions with 2 hours to complete. It took me 30 minutes to get thru it. I was so dishearted after the first 40 questions that I just read them only once and chose an answer and moved on, no second guessing! The questions were not what I was expecting to see. I studied on and off for a month, a max of 5 hours a week really. I really liked the subject and was prepared to take the class over summer session if I did not pass, but I'll take that B!

Here is what I used to study!

EC recommends a textbook by Tortura, Funk & Case.....I did not use it but I did download Vangonotes from Audible for 7.99 and it was every chapter with a 20 minute review of the text and then 2 sections of quizzing for each chapter. At night while I was trying to fall asleep, I turned it on and apparently learned something while I was sleeping. I could recall alot by doing it that way the next day or either god was on my side. I also listened to about 4 reviews on the way to the testing center this morning because its 1.5 hr drive from me. FYI - it takes me a long time to go to sleep at night.

I have the giant binder from College Network - its pretty good also. I read several chapters in it. I got it from an amazon reseller for 26.00. This thing is HUGE, but well worth the money.

I also got two supplemental books: Micro Demystified and Micro Cliff Notes Super Review. I read thru about 50 % of each of them, skimming for relevant info based on the content guide.

I took 1.5 peterson's practice tests: I made a 40 on the first one before I began studying and only got thru maybe 20 questions on the second one before my internet went down and I lost access to it because it acted like I took it after my internet came back up and unfortunately I was not able to access the test to see what was on it. I did see one "very familiar question" on the test from the petersons.

I am so glad this is one is over. I just knew midway thru that I have failed, but a B....seriously! This was also my first EC exam. I was expecting alot of "a headache, stiff neck and fever would most likely be caused by which virus" but there was no such thing. There were only 2 microscope questions and maybe 3 important people questions. Based on the content guide, for those thinking of taking this, focus on the big areas like the ones that account for 15-25% sections.

  Which Psych Clep Is Easier?

Hi,

I'm deciding between Intro to Educational Psychology or Human Growth and Development? If you've taken both, which do you think is easier?

Thanks,
Rach

  More help, with focus
Posted by: Lyanne - 05-03-2011, 01:07 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

Lots of people asking for help today...
I'm so unfocused right now. I had a fantastic April, getting 12 credits through 3 tests. Then I got a speeding ticket and opted to take a break from CLEPs to do a traffic school DVD. I've had the DVD for over a week and only got through the first hour. I also have Western Civ II REA book, Idiot's Guide to American Government, am listening to Western Civ I on iTunes, and itching to sign up for ALEKS.
I know that success at testing is as easy as scheduling a test, but I can't seem to pull the trigger on any of these. Am Gov is the next logical test, but I am not enthusiastic enough about it to read past the 3 or 4 pages I have already read. Maybe because we're buying a house and our closing is the 11th, moving the 12th? I don't know...I'd love to hear from some of you who this has happened to, I can't be the only one. A swift kick, a shove down one of these roads, a military CLEP-er ordering me to schedule a specific test?

Help on the Modern Middle East exam
Posted by: shelbaline4 - 05-03-2011, 12:38 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (6)

I am studying for the Modern Middle East exam for next week and wanted to see if anyone could give me advice on the IC flashcards and this particular exam. The information on the flashcards seems very broad and I was wondering if there were particular sections that I should pay particular attention to and if there were any that are really not covered too much on the exam.

This is my last exam and the material just seems so daunting....

  Help!
Posted by: STG - 05-03-2011, 11:50 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (32)

I just found out I'm 2 credits short on graduating and that I need to take another CLEP...within the next 2 weeks!! My dean told me to try the Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP but I'm not good with English and I hate reading... Where can I find literary terms to study from?
I want to try Peterson's but ever since my bad luck with it on Biology I'm too scared to even look at it...
Also, for this CLEP do I need to know a lot of vocabulary? English is not my first language and I really don't know what to do...

ALEKS course equivalent to TESC Stats 201?

For a BA in Psych at TESC, Statistics is required. Anyone have confirmation that ALEKS Intro to Stats or Stats for Behavioral Sciences meets this requirement?
