  Degrees from different colleges
Posted by: NJMike201 - 10-04-2010, 10:36 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (12)

I've searched but I have haven't found an answer so far for my issue.

I plan on doing most of my credits for a TESC BSBA through CLEP and DSST tests. Once I receive the degree from TESC can I also use those same credits from CLEP/DSST for a different school? For example (a bad example, but it may make sense): I first get a BSBA from TESC and then get a BSBA from EC using the same CLEP/DSST credits.

I can't see any reason why this wouldn't work, unless credits are retained by the institution once they receive them, but that doesn't make sense to me.

I think that this is often done to get an AS from one school and a BS from another school but I'm not sure if it would work the same way for this.

Thanks

BEWARE if you ever pay a bill by phone
Posted by: Lindagerr - 10-04-2010, 08:24 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (9)

I was just F^*ked by American Express. I was a couple of days late with paying my last bill so I got a call on Sunday morning. He woke me from a sound sleep, I was sick and I had no voice. I told the guy all of this and I just wanted to get off the phone. He kept bothering me until I promised I would take care of the payment on October 1st. Well after work on Oct 1st I called Amex to find out what was the minimum I had to pay and found out they had taken OVER $2900 out of my account overdrawing my account by over $1700. In the meantime my check for my Cobra health insurance was bounced and I had over $100 in fees.

Between friday night and tonight I have been on the phone over 5 hours trying to ge this all straightened out. It is still a mess.

Amex has admitted they might have misunderstood me, but that is not going to help me get my COBRA back if I lose it.

The moral of the story is if you ever pay a bill by phone from your checking account go back afterwards and make sure your account information is removed. Otherwise at any time they can misunderstand you and take money out of your account causing a mess of trouble

  TESC $$$ Question
Posted by: burbuja0512 - 10-04-2010, 07:48 PM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (5)

Hello TESC Students,

I am so excited because my dear husband is deciding to join me on my degree journey. I made a hasty decision to matriculate at COSC, which I don't regret, but I actually recommended TESC to him based on the fact that they recommend, but don't require, taking a capstone. COSC does requires the capstone, which I don't mind taking, but DH really wants to see if he can test through everything.

Anyhow, he has been accepted and is calculating costs and somehow came up with a 12k cost, not including our study materials and our CLEP/DSST costs. He's telling me that TESC will charge him $86 per credit to accept his CLEP's.

I will end up paying about 1/3 of this price for a COSC degree, assuming that I manage to finish in one year, so I can't imagine that TESC is that much more expensive.

Would anyone here mind sharing their costs with me? He hasn't matriculated yet, so we want to make sure that he makes the right choice.

Thanks!

How much Military Credit will Excelsior give you?
Posted by: kcboiee - 10-04-2010, 12:03 PM - Forum: Military Discussion - Replies (2)

Hi everyone! New to the forums and just had some questions that i hope some of you guys can answer. I recently applied to Excelsior College's BS in Liberal Studies program and i was just wondering how much of my military credit would transfer in towards my degree program or which degree program would allow the maximum transferrable credits towards completion. The Liberal Studies program seemed easy enough to just take a bunch of classes and tests to get that degree as long as i meet the requirements.

My military background: i am an HM2 in the Navy, been through HM school, Field medical school, and Hemodialysis school. Classes and tests ive take so far are listed in my Signature. i am also enrolled at national university, where they had given me 54 quarter units towards my degree... but you need 180 QU to graduate Sad . i only have another 1.5years before i finish but i would like to get my degree sooner even if its a kinda useless degree (as long as its regionally accredited), i just need it to start my MS in Entry level nursing so i can be a Nurse.

*i understand that every person's situation with transferrable credits is different but i just wanted to get an idea of how much excelsior gave you or your friends. I would greatly appreciate any feedback you folks may have.

Thanks

Posted by: Pslliope - 10-03-2010, 02:19 PM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (5)

I would like to complete a social sciences degree from Thomas Edison State. Possibly using only CLEP, ECE, DSST exams. Can someone help me figure out if the degree plan below will fulfill TESC's credit requirements for the degree? Would I have to CLEP the 27 credit free electives portion or is there an alternative way of attaining credits? Thanks!

6 more UL credits - any recommendations?
Posted by: kevinmanemane - 10-03-2010, 12:18 PM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (12)

So after I take the World Religions and Org Behavior DSSTs, I'll need 6 more UL credits before I'm eligible for graduation for the Liberal Studies BA at TESC.

After I take World Religions and Org Behavior, My CLEP/DSSTs that could go towards that degree will then be maxed out.
So I need 6 more UL credits.

Any suggestions on where to get it?
They have to be in the Humanities or Social Science category.
And if possible, I'd prefer them to be interesting and/or easy-ish.

Somebody suggested ECE Gerontology and ECE Adulthood & Aging cuz they overlap each other and they have IC flashcards.

I was also thinking about ECE World Population cuz i heard its not too hard and then take World War II from LSU.

Then I was thinking about just taking 2 courses from LSU cuz at least i can control whether i pass or not.

Anybody got anything else they wanna suggest?

  We Shouldn't Be Alive
Posted by: CLEP101 - 10-03-2010, 12:50 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (10)

Hi all,

Today (2 October) was the first day of Deer (Archery) Hunting Season here in Texas. I took my little girl hunting with me for some father/daughter bonding. We went out, enjoyed the outdoors and wildlife and had fun. We didn't kill any deer but my daughter had fun looking at the squirrels, raccoons, foxes and birds, No Deer though.
After the hunting trip, we got in my truck and headed for home. We were going down the highway, I looked at the rearview to see my daughter in the back seat and next thing I knew we were flying through the air. 8pm to be exact.

A lady not paying attention, flew past a stop sign doing about 45-50 MPH and were doing 55 MPH as well, but we had the right of way. She hit my truck on the driver's side which caused us to flip and roll over several times. We landed in a ditch right side up. I got out of the truck to make sure my daughter was alive. I was surprised she was not hurt at all, except for a few scratches. I got a little banged up but nothing major. I looked at my truck and it was destroyed, wheels fell off, windows broken, the roof caved in from the rollover. I was so happy my daughter was okay, she didn't even cry which was unusual. I was so mad that I would have shot the lady if I had my gun on me. I was not thinking straight with rage worrying about my girl. My daughter made me laugh when she burst out with, "daddy, we don't have a truck to go hunting anymore" she said, "poor truck". She was more worried about he truck than anything else. That made my anger go away and I just hugged her.

After seeing the the entire accident scene, I still think that we should have died on that intersection. I guess that little Nissan Frontier of mine was built tough, it was either that or God was looking out for us. Probably both.

Someone owes me a new truck!!!

So... Monday I started reading the REA CLEP intro to sociology. Tuesday night I finished it... Then subscribed to this site and took two of the four practice flash card tests. Wednesday I took the 3 REA practice tests, and went through all the flash card tests on this website. Thursday - I took the CLEP. Score: 55!
IT can be done in 3-4 days! if you study hard!

Im happy w/ the site... Great useful info and easy strategy to learn the material needed for CLEP.

Good luck everyone!
