  Free undergrad degree!
Posted by: cookderosa - 12-03-2009, 03:38 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (5)

This is not a distance option, but check this out! In my community, we have the home campus for Ashford University (they also offer online degrees). Anyway, they have decided to award scholarships based on your GPA (high school for new grads or college for transfer students).
This scholarship applies ONLY to the on campus degree. The college costs $15K per year.
If your GPA is 3-3.24 you get $10,000
If your GPA is 3.25-3.49 you get $12,500
but if your GPA is over 3.5 it's a FULL RIDE! They are also offering anyone who qualifies for the full ride a chance to apply for a full ride housing scholarship. In otherwords, this is a totally free degree and totally free housing! HELLO this is awesome!
They accept CLEP, they are a CLEP testing center, and they only have a 30 credit residency requirement.
The college is located in Clinton Iowa. If you are interested, I have a pdf document of the scholarship, for some reason I can't upload it and it is burried in their website, so just email me and I'll send it to you. cookderosa@aol.com
Deadline is January and if you come out this way I'd love to share a cup of coffee with you Smile

english comp with essay scoring issue
Posted by: creationstory - 12-03-2009, 01:12 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (13)

from an email list

I just rec'd a phone call from college board. If you took General English Comp with essay from the period of 2/2007 - 9/2009 you may receive a call/letter from the scorers of the exam. It appears the computer, which scored the multiple choice portion of the exam, was using the wrong conversion chart. In my case, it meant my first attempt at this exam where I missed by 1 point was actually a PASS!! And, my second attempt which resulted in a 64, was actually a 63. CRAZY!!! This is a HUGE snaffu for college board and could effect many students.

Please do NOT go flooding the phone system. They are working their way through the students. If you score has changed they will contact you. My hope and prayer is that no one who passed by 1 or two points is going to be negatively impacted! They are also contacting your college directly, if you designated an institution to send scores to during the exam.

Looking for absolute lowest cost RA Masters!
Posted by: mongoose65 - 12-03-2009, 08:54 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

Oy vay, I've been researching this so long. I need ANY RA masters to get into a state education program that only accepts RA masters degrees for admission. It can be in basket weaving for all they care since I have extensive business experience. I would love to do Andrew Jackson but it's not RA. North Carolina has amazing rates for in-state only but out of state students pay through the nose! Prefer easy (open) admissions). I have seen degree paths for $9000-$11000 but am hoping to do better if possible since I have to follow the masters with a B&M state post-grad certification path that cannot be avoided but is at least $20k.

ANY info I'm missing is appreciated. I get the feeling there is SOMETHING out there I haven't found. Maybe a former NA school that just got RA accreditation or something like that!

Thanks and best.

DSSRT Tests and Cramming for a CLEP
Posted by: jm82792 - 12-03-2009, 01:38 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - No Replies

I'm 17,
I've done 2 Cleps so far,
Sociology (58) and MicroEconomics(53) and want to think of what to do after CLEPs.

I know they are considered difficult since it's replacing "real"
college classes.
Anyways am I a little crazy if I prepped for a DSSRT while I'm doing CLEPs,
and take one every 3 months ?
I'm assuming the prep for them would involve a couple thick and recognized books on whatever subject I want to study for and Instacert to support my efforts, well and maybe a standardized test of some sort to know I'm ready.

And another question,
I just found out from two of my friends(more like acquaintances) are flying over to Honolulu(where I have to taker my tests, there is is no place to take tests on the Big Island) and I only have History 1 to the point I can pass today, although I want to polish it up(I get 80% correct on IC) some to get something better than like 55 since the test is always somewhat different.
Long story short I'm saving money on a taxi,
airfare, I would otherwise take a parent with me since I'm pretty visually impaired(so I don't have the guts to do it by myself yet) and I want to make it worth my while with this cheap yet short notice trip.

I broke the ice in Introductory to Physiology,
I've read the whole book almost twice,
however I have not absorbed the terminology

Could I cram(well 4-6 hours a day for physiology then like 2 for history) it and pass it?

Do you think that's a possible goal for somebody who has never known anything about physiology to pass it with two weeks with my current situation?

  APA Citation question
Posted by: JanusthePhoenix - 12-02-2009, 10:11 PM - Forum: What does this Flashcard mean or Do this math problem for me - Replies (5)

Hopefully I can get some traffic in this weird little subforum.

I want to cite something in a book that was reprinted from somewhere else. Should I cite the information from the book I read it in, or from the periodical that it was originally printed in? I have the requisite info to do either one.

How do CLEPs compare in difficulty?
Posted by: FinancialWorld - 12-02-2009, 08:26 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (21)

I've been kind of wondering about this for awhile. How hard really are the CLEPs? I say this not in the way that they're too hard for me, but I just have nothing to compare them too. Are they harder then "regular" college exams?
I ask this because when I'm "flying" through my degree and my friends are going the "normal" way. This makes me look like I'm "special needs" or something because I have chosen a different rout.
I just wanted to know what other might think about this or if something similar has happened.

P.S. By the way, I have taken CLEPs before.

  Principles of Statistics (Any guidance?)
Posted by: SinsEnemy - 12-02-2009, 02:01 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

Hello to anyone that reads this. I just joined InstantCert yesterday and am eager to get my associates degree through the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF). I first plan to CLEP Principles of Statistics for my needed math credits. Does anyone have any advice on test prep for this subject? Currently I am going through the flash cards on-line and memorizing all 258 questions. Do you think this is a good plan of action for studying? This may be all I do if I get replies back saying the flashcards will suffice for information. Thank you for your time and consideration on these questions.
