I'm confused now. So I can't do the straighter line or tesec comp ll then?

Before I joined the military I took one semester of English. If I were to transfer this class to Excelsior could that count as my writing requirement and then Clep/Dante a 3 credit English course?

I took ENG 101 College Writing at a local community college. That's where I got mine. Get the military to pay for it, put in your time, learn something, and get it done. But, you said you did one semester of English: Was it college level 100 or above? Did it include the word writing in the title? The guidelines for this requirement are spelled out in the School of Liberal Arts catalog at Excelsior.

Straighterline will work according to the course equivalency list, but I am not sure about the TESEC. I would check with an Excelsior adviser before taking any exam to meet the written English requirement.

I am going through this issue right now. They will only accept the Uexcel, or the EC course. They are not moving from their position.

So the SL English Composition II would not fulfil the requirement?

Welcome to the forum! Pages 2-3 of the 2015 LA catalog are very clear about many ways to fulfill the WER, including ACE.

I suspect that os4185 is having an unusual issue with fulfilling the last few credits of a degree and not paying an enrollment fee, but we are waiting for confirmation of that in another thread.

Thanks for clarifying!

I am experiencing this issue, too! It's very frustrating to be just 13 credits away from completing my B.A. and them basically saying I need to take English 101 because I've never taken a college English course. I have taken CLEP College Composition without essay (they won't accept this) and back in the day, my college waived (gave me credit) for ENG 101 because I scored a perfect score on my ACT English sub-test. As a military linguist with 3 documented foreign language proficiencies and multiple Foreign Language grammar and composition courses, it feels ridiculous to have to take 6 ENG credits at this point in the game.

Any idea why they are so picky about this? Is this just a money-grab on their part? I am looking into StraighterLine now but I may just bite the bullet and pay to take the 6 credit Excelsior exam for English, since it seems the easiest way to make them happy and be done with this already!

Before you 'bite the bullet', make sure your base education office (or another nearby) doesn't offer the UEXCEL tests.

The bullet I am speaking of biting is the $440 fee to take the UExcel test that my local testing center *does* offer.
