Don't hold your breath. They have indicated that they have no intention to allow online testing.

You might be 150 years old and the internet may be a thing of the past by the time that happens.

If CLEP ever did manage to update its offerings to have remote proctoring, I would hope they use RPNow and not ProctorU. That said, this may be the end of CLEP as a viable way to get credit because there is no way to take tests for most people and there might not be any changes in that status for at least another year.

Reminder: The 1918 flu pandemic actually lasted multiple years. And that was a disease that we knew comparatively a lot about. Even if there is a vaccine tomorrow that doesn't automatically mean that all testing centers will be able to reopen immediately. There will still be a good 6-12 months lag time as production facilities ramp up their ability to produce covid vaccine.

I wouldn't be that dramatic. Sure, there are lots of test centers closed right now, but many have reopened. In my area, about 1/3 are open, mainly technical schools. While the college test centers that many people are used to using are often closed, open centers can be found by opening up the test center locator, picking up the phone, and working down the list. In most metro areas it should still be possible to take exams somewhere right now, albeit often with a longer drive. Those of you in more rural locations may be in a more difficult position.

Totally depends on your state. In my state, I can't find any open within 2 hours and that includes 5 metro areas.

1/3rd being open means that 2/3rds are closed. Even if that 1/3rd are fully open (I hope, for the sake of social distancing, that this is not the case) that still means that only 1/3rd as many students as usual are able to take a CLEP test. So, even in your area, it's mathematically likely that most students probably cannot take the CLEP exams that they had planned on taking prior to the pandemic. 66% or more is, indeed, most.

Being open and being safe are two different things. I definitely wouldn't be visiting a test center right now unless they were offering testing in an open-air testing area or limiting one person to a room or something.

I live just outside San Francisco and even before Covid it was hard to find a local testing center. There once were many in the area but most of them closed over the last few years. The remaining are primarily located in colleges and are only open to students at that specific school. If I wanted to take a CLEP or DSST, I was looking at a 45-60 minute drive one way to find an open test center.

Of course, it isn't legal for them to be open in this area so they are all closed now, but I wonder how many will reopen?
