Isn't that on TADA?

Rachel:  Good point.  If you, or anyone here has a Coursera discount code (for the single certification, not the Plus plan), please share with me.  I will be working on my UMPI classes and the Google Analytics Cert, so there is no way I will get the cert done in the 7-day trial.  Thank you so much. Big Grin

I don't have a discount code, but I think you can audit the course for free, then, when you are ready, start the 7 day trial, take the assessments and get the certificate.

I believe Coursera also allows you to sign up for financial aid.  And, finally, if you live in NYS you can get free access through the department of labor.

It is, yes. For students who don't qualify for TADA, there are other options on the Coursera page: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Coursera

Well, I asked if I had dropped the course. Jessica replied that you can't drop the course if you've started the assessment.

The point is, I *haven't* started the assessment, because I can't. I don't know how to program in Visual Basic using Visual Studio- how to integrate the project into a database, etc. It wasn't taught in this course.

I'm livid. That aside, I've asked her how she would suggest I learn this, or to clarify whether simply reading the requirements of the final project constitutes "starting" it.

Awaiting reply...

I'm wondering if I should just submit a "failed" project, and simultaneously complete the Google Data Analytics certification to use as an equivalent. Ugh- all of this wasted time.

I'd probably go back to her and just tell her you haven't started the assessment.

Many people have had this issue with this course.  I have seen some students tell about watching Youtube videos to learn it and others saying they got extra help from the professor.  This is a known issue with this course and the issues with the MIS course are also known and discussed frequently.  Students have to just do the best they can, ask for help, get outside support.  It is really inappropriate that these courses are both so poorly written.  They will hopefully be fixed in the move to Brightspace but for those of us doing them now, we have to find ways to work around the issues.

If you can't drop it, then watch some youtube videos and talk to the professor.  The professors don't write the material, they are teaching what was written before them.  Sometimes they have ideas and solutions to these kinds of problems.

Good news, in a surprising reversal, they agreed to drop the course.

Now down to one active competency, I've requested that another course be added in it's place (I only show one competency at the moment), and I've scheduled a week of vacation from work so that I can complete the Google Data Analytics course.

Sadly, I did receive a response from M. Curran, but didn't access it in the time-window before I was unenrolled and am now unable to see it. I did enjoy him as a teacher- his responses were fast and direct. Hopefully I'll have the opportunity to be in another of his classes before it's over.

Hi Gina:  I'm glad it worked out.  I had Professor Curran for BUS 345 Database Management.  He is one of my favorite professors.
In case you haven't signed up yet for Coursera, I found a link that gives UMPI students free access to Coursera and the Google Data Analytics Cert.
Here is link to the thread I posted: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-Free-Coursera-Access-for-UMPI-Students

If you have the ability to drop everything in your life and become a study-machine, you might be able to get the cert done in less than a month.  I basically did just that and finished it about 20 minutes ago (in just under 2 weeks), coming from a place of zero experience with the R programming language.

RE: Considering Dropping - 2 classes in. - bjcheung77 - 08-06-2023

Wow, that's awesome, two weeks and you're learning a programming language, R... I should get more Coursera/TADA certs under my belt as I want to get more languages and knowledge in those domains...
