These are my different classes from BABA/BA: I would rather not pay out of pocket for any more classes if I can help it, I would rather just max out FAFSA first, so all classes would be taken at UMPI. I'm not in a rush to do a 1 term completion, though I'm going to try to do it quickly. My main goal was to be finished with whatever I chose to do before my daughter finished 4th grade (May 2024). These are my different classes from BABA/BA:For the BA Accounting, do you need to complete the following ? This small list was just the differences between the 2 degrees, there's a lot of classes that overlap that I didn't include because I need to take either way. BUS 376 is required for both BABA and BA in Accounting, and 466 is not required for either. RE: BA, BABA, BLS - Accounting, which one? - durain - 08-03-2023 On the program web page. Both BUS 376 and BUS 466 appear to be mandatory for the BA Accounting https://online.umpi.edu/degrees/undergraduate/bachelor-of-arts/acct/ Is this right? Both BUS 376 and BUS 466 appear to be mandatory for the BA Accounting Oh you might be right then. I was just going off of the Wiki: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UMPI_BA_Accounting_Degree_Plan The wiki doesn't have 466 listed. RE: BA, BABA, BLS - Accounting, which one? - bjcheung77 - 08-03-2023 Hmm, I still recommend going with the BA Accounting and also a BABA PM & IS double major. The BA Accounting only has two extra accounting courses than BABA Accounting, and because you can't double major in a BABA with two different concentrations (as the major is Business Administration), this would be the most ROI/Value and under your budget. Difference between this and the BLS is that free electives are less. Anyways, if you review the link to my previous post, you'll have some classes that are required for the PM & IS. If you look at the spreadsheet I created 3 months ago, you'll see the only difference is 4 non Accounting courses between the BA Accounting and the BABA Accounting. Total in different courses actually is just 18 credits (6 courses) Link: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-UMPI-BA-Accounting-2nd-Bachelor-Degree?pid=390713#pid390713 Furthermore the most of the extra courses, such as COM 210, BUS 415, BUS 489 from the BA Accounting is already part of the requirements for the BABA Project Management. You're not doing too much extra work in order to get the second major! Again, if I was in your shoes and looking at the BLS Accounting & MIS minors, by changing the free electives to required courses, you get two majors vs minors! So I would get my BA Accounting and then have to out of pocket the addition BABA-PM courses? You're not cut off, you're thinking of too much, it's not two degrees, it's one degree with two majors (Accounting & Business Administration). Concentrations, Minors are just that, it's part of a degree, you can have multiple minors or majors at UMPI, and for some majors, there are concentrations. In the end, or at the end of the day, you're just getting one degree. Sometimes people get confused on, concentrations, minors, majors, double degree, dual major, etc... just like this person in the thread, you should review the entire thread, but here are the 4 posts of mine that explain everything in the thread (especially the last post is the recap). RE: BA, BABA, BLS - Accounting, which one? - ss20ts - 08-03-2023 Honestly, a BABA and BA Accounting is overkill. The BA in Accounting is the best bet on your future career. I wouldn't take 30 classes at UMPI as it is a lot and it will take significantly longer to complete your degree. I'd stick to 1 bachelor's degree. 2 isn't necessary. If you want to become a CPA in the future, go for a master's in accounting or an MBA to get the 150 credits you'd need. A second bachelor's degree won't get you those accounting courses that you'd need for the CPA. RE: BA, BABA, BLS - Accounting, which one? - freeloader - 08-03-2023 I don’t think your job prospects would be different much if at all between the BA in Accounting or the BA in Business Admin with Accounting concentration. If it were me, I would do the BA in Accounting because of the classes. Cost is a pretty important class, is required for MAcc admissions at a lot of places, and would be valuable if you end up in a lot of industries. I found the spreadsheets class useful and not overly difficult. Granted, I graduate almost 2 years ago and things have changed. I really don’t see an advantage to the BABA…unless you want to add a second concentration. You could do the BABA with accounting concentration and a second concentration and it would require fewer courses than the BA Accounting plus BABA. If you are thinking about the UMPI MAOL as a grad degree, getting the management and leadership concentration would (unless things have changed) save you from having to complete some of the grad-level courses for that master’s. Better to have it paid for with Pell Grant than you paying out of pocket for those courses! |
