I've paid them $2,800 for 1 visit to an advisor (1 hr) and a cap & gown. They should be giving me the best service possible for that kind of money!

lmech Wrote:I'm feeling ya Brian. Same situation concerning transcripts. I have 11 tests since December that have not been added to my transcripts. It's a total crazy situation. I honestly think they do this on purpose if you are testing out all/most of your degree. I don't know if it is to discourage people, or just to bleed people for time, so they will have to pay another years tuition.

I hate making assumptions about the school, and understand that I get what I pay for. Plus, knowing this is a pretty much "self service" institution, but COME ON! Can't these people just update our degree plan within a few weeks. Not months! Some people have commented that TESC has thousands upon thousands of people to service. That would be a reason for the bad customer service. Well, if they can't handle thier student load, they should not be accepting new students.

As far as the graduation thing, that is ridiculous:mad: I would call back and speak to Dr.Keeling. Heck, I would keep complaining up their chain of command, if needed. Reading other peoples postings on similar circumstances makes me realize that the only way to get anything done at TESC is to complain. How sad.

Keep pushing on! Don't give up. You are at the end now. Just keep calling them until they are sick of yaBig Grin

I will join TESC next month . Are they really bad? More comment about their services please. What should I do first, take test and register later or register now and take test later. Please help thanks

Sorry to hear about your troubles Brian.

What do people think about Charter Oak's customer service?

Thomas Edison Sucks - brothermike - 03-06-2009

I have had a good experience with them thus far. Had my first official eval today and the advisor was very helpful with selecting classes. I was told that as long as I have everything in to them by 6/15/09 I can apply for the 6/30/09 deadline. We will see what happens but whatever the case I am still getting my degree about 2 years faster than if I went to my local university.

The deal killer for me and excelsior was the name and the fact that they count cleps and dsst's in your gpa.

TESC did lose one of my transcripts so I had to have it resent, I called someone who I have been able to form a relationship with over there and that person got it handled the same day they received the new one (because he/she was aware of the mistake).

You should try calling someone else at TESC and liberally apply some "honey". Only open the vinegar jar under EXTREME circumstances.

I've had limited dealings with them, but they were all good.

TESC isn't known for their stellar customer service, but it's not really that bad. People just expect everything at the speed of now, not realizing that everything takes time. I takes time foe CLEP to send the results to the school, time for them to input the results, etc...

My experience with them was pretty good. All my questions were answered in a timely manner and if I had an issue, all it took was an e-mail and voila!! I had an issue once with making sure my degree audit was updated so I just called up there, was nice and polite, and the chick was more than cool with helping me.

To re-emphasize... honey, not vinegar.

Thomas Edison Sucks - thatbrian - 03-06-2009

Your experience may have been good, but please don't dismiss what I am saying by implying that I am impatient or that I don't understand processes that take place in an institution.

I didn't start this thread for my benefit - it's too late for me. I am trying to warn others, before they make the same mistake I did.

I'm not trying to dismiss your experience. I AM trying to provide an alternate viewpoint for other future students who are as of yet undecided on a school. You started out by posting under the title "Thomas Edison Sucks" and then just left the comment and subsequent post hanging, thus drawing a lot of interest. You just made a lot of inflammatory statements. Now I'm here to dispute them Big Grin

Well, you actually paid for a one year enrollment, which includes visitations, advice, etc.. Does it suck having to pay that much for what you really didn't use? Yep. I'm right there with you. But do you want that piece of paper that still costs WAYY less than most other schools?

thatbrian Wrote:I was told that if I get my transcripts to them by March 30th I MIGHT graduate in September!!!
There's no way that information is correct. It sounds like you got some bad info. TESC is slow, but not that slow.

Thomas Edison Sucks - jonasling - 03-06-2009

Thanks for the reply Brian.

Since TESC seems overwhelmed, people should move their business to EC and Charter Oak. These are businesses just like any other. Move to where you are treated best. Support those who are doing their job well. I intend to go with EC or COSC.

Thomas Edison Sucks - Jason86 - 03-06-2009

Brian, I understand your motivation is an attempt to call attention to something that's messed so that others who come after us won't have to face it. I know how it feels when you realize they jacked you up and don't care. And I agree that's a ridiculously long time to wait for them to transcribe your credits.

Silly as it seems, like other members, I also went with tesc partially because it sounds better than excelsior and partially because I can do their degree really fast. But what good is earning a degree from a school that could eventually lose it's rep and become a joke in academic circles? TESC's custom of incompetent service is becoming more widely known . It's costing them loss of tuition dollars. I'm still hoping I didn't pick the wrong school because even if I earn my degree faster than ECE or COSC-what good is a degree if employers know you went to a school know to be staffed by incompetents?

Seems like in many of my posts I go on and on about the economy. Wink But I'm thinking with the recession there may soon be a culling of some of the lazy or incompetent employees at tesc.

mr mikes1, If at all possible could you please consider helping others here by sharing the name of your contact? Someone sent me something pm but when I saw the header to this thread I asked and she said it's OK to post. She said that she's not sure but it's possible one of the reasons I've had 2 bad advisers is that the informed helpful caring ones do the BS advising. Could be. idk
